  1. Done some searching but just need to clarify....

I'm looking into getting some black steelies, Cragar Soft 8's to be exact. I have 31x10.5's on now, if I get a 15x8 with 4" bs, will I still be able to run the same tires for now and will they stick out more or less than stock (3.75 bs)?

Also, how will the steelies affect my mpg's or overall performance?

    Thanks all!

  2. the pinion head is gonna be about the same size as the head of my.........

    and that ain't very big

    :chairfall:

I wasn't saying earlier that it was a capable rig, just kinda cool to see a pathy sitting that high. Agreed that it may not be functional, but it sure catches the eye...

  3. Ok, so as some of you know I jacked up the IFS on my 87 2 door the first time I took it out, but what can you expect from a $500 truck that's been sitting 6 years...

Anyways, I got a parts wagoneer that has all the suspension under it but was really wanting to go with coils up front instead of leafs. If I did that, I would need some kind of linkage up front and was wondering if there was a way to use the came kind of link setup the rear has on the front. I ask because I have a parts pathy that I could cut this off of and hook up to the front. I haven't looked at it because I'm at school and 100 miles away from my project vehicles.

Would this setup work or are there things in the way up front that aren't in the rear?

    Thanks for the help!

  4. I recently put a new window in my 87, and as far as removing and installing the window itself, it's pretty straightforward. Me and my dad did it and it was a breeze with two people, and it helped that I don't have any interior panels on the doors...

All I did was remove one screw at the bottom of the window and then it pulled right out. I'm sure after that it shouldn't be too much work to replace the window motor.

    Good luck!

  5. My 94 started just shutting off or the dash would just turn off while the car would still be running without guages, A/C controls, or radio. The problem on mine was a connection on the battery terminal was loose. Good luck on the diagnosis!

  6. Well, since I just got my old pathfinder back, there is a new sound I didn't remember. The previous owner put a set of new tires on it, they're Prime Well's (I've never heard of them before) and there is now a high pitch whine starting at about 35-40 mph. The previous owner also had new CV axles put on and I was wondering if perhaps the auto hubs are not put back on correctly and the axles are constantly spinning in 2wd even though the tires aren't. My 4wd indicator light is also always on, which it wasn't when I sold it and it had actually been fixed once.

    Thanks for the help!

  7. Well, for those of you that remember, I sold my 94 black SE 5 spd about 6 months ago. My thoughts were that my camaro would also sale and I could use that money plus a little help from my dad to get me a 1/2 ton crew cab 4x4 that I've wanted for a while. Well, camaro didn't sell and it's about time to go back to school and my dad lost his job, so there will be no help there. I found the email from the lady that bought my pathy and I offered to buy it back. She put $1000 in it including new CL and some ball joints and I paid $300 more than she paid me, and I got the pathy back. Think I came out on top on this deal! She's home again!

  8. Well thanks for the help everyone, I bought me another pathy last night. I actually bought my old one back that I sold 6 months ago, missed it too much. :itsallgood:

  9. Well, looks like a SAS... wanting to do coils instead of leafs, maybe even coilovers like this rig.

If I'm getting a whole Wagoneer, what parts am I going to have to start acquiring? I know I'm going to have to set up my own steering, shock/coilover mounts, and control arms.

I'm going to be talking to a local 4x4 guy here in town and seeing what he can help with and how much he's going to charge, but just wanted to get an idea now.

    TIA!

  10. let me know when you pull the trail master kit out, and what you might want for it.

Will do, just so you know, I won't have any instructions or anything like that, but I'm sure it's all pretty self explanatory. I could probably take pictures of where the parts came off of....

  11. And correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't you get a s/c from a newer X, and put it into a manual older X?

I would personally be happy with just a 3.3L v6 manual, but all I can find locally are the smaller engines with the standards...gah

Can you get a s/c in a manual older x?

Do the standard x's have a bit more guts than the autos?

  12. Being a college student myself and having to haul stuff back and forth too, I would go with the xterra over the frontier just because most of the stuff you usually carry isn't stuff that can be thrown into the back of a pickup. At least in my case.

Agreed. Most of my stuff isn't throw in the back of a truck stuff... and I like being the one that drives when me and my friends go somewhere.... frontier doesn't carry very many people either... thanks for the input though.

    What about a X vs a R50?

The X is bigger and isn't a unibody....

  13. get a good mpg car for a DD, man.

Reason for a SUV is that I've got some college left and I need something to get me and my stuff to and fro. MPG isn't my main question on here, I can deal with 15-18. More just curious if anyone had any experience with them, did seem a little gutless driving around the lot (they were about to close), but also felt like it needed a tune up.

Seem to get a lot of good information on this forum so was seeing what everyone's thoughts were. Thanks again and I'll do some research.

  14. I'm looking at a 2000 X-terra 4x4 and didn't know if anyone on here has one and what they thought about it... thanks for the input!

It's going to be my DD, keeping the pathy a trail rig.

  15. I'll post some pics up this afternoon. The IA DID bend the first time, new one is on and pretty sure it's bent a little, but not as much.

It's weird though, when I was climbing rocks and hills when it first started happening, my buddies were telling me the tires were fighting each other and toeing in, but when I'd get to the top and stop to look at it, they would be fine....

  16. Took the pathy out for her first offroad run on Thursday and about half-way through, I noticed the steering starting to suck real bad. My buddy that was in front of me said that my tires were both angled in and fighting each other. Had someone look at it and they said the idler arm was bent. So, took the one off my parts car, (great to have one of those) and adjusted the tie rods to align the tires within .25". Took her out again yesterday and did fine for less than an hour and then back to the same old crap!

I got the pathy and the parts car for $500. It's an 87 and I'm pretty sure the whole front end is close to being wore out. It's got a TM lift and before I got it, it had been sitting for 6 years. Found me two good donor vehicles for a SAS that run for $400 for both so I could maybe even part it out and make my money back. Even got a friend to split the cost with me for a SAS for his yota. In the long run, would I be ahead to just go ahead and SAS if that was my plan to do eventually anyways, or figure out what's wrong with the IFS and get it fixed?

Thanks for the help and opinions everyone. Greatly appreciated!
