  1. I took it to Eagle Transmission in Mesquite with the reccomendation of a member here. We checked the fluid and the level is good, the color is a pinkish bright red, and they said it didnt smell burned. I will take it back to them in morning and leave it so they can go over it.
  2. The previous owner got defensive, immediately, when I called him. Then after a while he said he would pay for half the istall of the catalytic converters, but I had to pay for the parts and the other half of the install. He's a weasel. It was hot here in Dallas yesterday, 98 degrees, so it wasnt anything weather related. I dont know what to do. Sell it, or try and get it to run right.
  3. You guys are now talking about something way beyond what I am capable of doing, and comprehending. I know nothing of a torque converter or throttle position sensors. I am not a car guy. I can learn, but I need someone with me that can impart the wisdom. So far I havent found any folks in Texas, much less DFW that are willing.
  4. So I think I am done with this vehicle. Its a turd. I took it in to have the recall check on the strut towers checked. While they are fine, both catalytic converters are toast. CEL should be on, and it would be if the seller hadnt had the bulb removed or disconnected. It still ran well, and decided then I might hang on to it and fix them one at a time. Until today. Today I noticed the Pathfinder jerking while it was going through the gears/speeds while driving and it seemed to struggle later on going through the gears/speeds. Then on the highway I noticed I was barely doing 60MPH, but my RPMs were in the 3K area. That aint right. After running my errand in Plano, I gingerly made my back to Dallas. I tried to speak with Rob at ToMc but he was gone for the day. I picked the brain of the fellow that did answer, and without much to go on, he said it could be those catalytic converters or a legitimate tranny issue. On the way home I found that if I was careful with the gas, I could let off it at just the right moment and it would slip into the gear it needed to be in (sometimes), or so it would seem. Maybe yall can tell me. If its a tranny issue, is it something easy (I'm pretty sure nothing is easy with regards to transmissions)? I noticed that the area under the shifter sure got warm today. Hell, I dont know. I am frustrated as hell, and I dont have a lot of money to dump into this bish. I miss my F-150 terribly.
  5. SO after a week or so of owning this thing, I like it, but I dont love it. Not because its bad or anything. Its not you, Pathfinder, its me. I have a problem with the fuel gauge. It may be a quarter of a tank on the gauge, but the tank is actually almost empty. I read of this problem, and an associated recall, but the recall stops at 2003 PFs, and mine is a 2004. Hopefully if I tell Nissan about it, they will cover me. I am also debating as to whether or not I should take it in for the current factory recall regarding the tower struts. Also, after a while of driving this one, it gets downright uncomfortable. Its the seat. And its me. I am fat, and have long legs. I have the seat all the way back, but an extra inch or two backwards would be awesome. The steering wheel wobble that I mentioned occurring between 60 and 70MPH has been narrowed down to about 65MPH. I believe it is pavement related, because on smoother stretches of highway it is greatly minimized. Things I need now are the keyless remote fobs x2, and another key or two.
  6. OK, I must have a slight bit of an anomaly as both buttons are green. I say the re-circ icons above the buttons, but they are so far up I thought they were for the knobs! To add to my confusion, it says "MAX A/C" between the buttons, thus I assumed the left button was Max A/C for the drivers side, and the right was Max A/C for the pax side. I will also attribute this conclusion to a lack of sleep!
  7. I'll take a look and get back to you. Right now my Anatolian Shepherd has been begging me for a ride since I wrecked his truck. Plus I'm hungry and dont feel like cooking, and there isnt a faithful women at this residence to make me a sammich.
  8. Two knobs (L to R): Blower Speed, Temperature. Below that are two little buttons.
  9. Wheel jiggle. I didnt feel like the rear end was swaying. That said, I am fully anticipating having to replace the rear lateral links like on the other.
  10. I just spoke with the owner, and he sounded shocked. Shocked I tell ya! He said you are supposed to push in the two Max A/C buttons that are below the A/C knobs. I come from Fords, and Max A/C on Fords does not activate the A/C, it merely gives you about 10% more airflow. I dunno, maybe Nissans work this way. Then again, maybe he is FoS.
  11. I dont mean to say its running rough, not at all. I just noticed that from 60-70MPH I noticed the wheel jiggled a bit, but as I accelerated through 70 or decelerated from about 60MPH, the vehicle ran smoother. That said, it could be nothing more than I just happened to be on crappy pavement (something DFW is plagued with) at the time. I dont expect the previous owner to do anything about the AC. Well maybe a FOAD, or "Hey, my buddy, the mechanic, will fix it for you, and cut you a deal."
  12. Oh, and I need to look into mounting my Nathan AirChime M5 on top
  13. Well, I'm kinda bummed. I bought it. It runs nice, rides pretty good (not great), and all that. However two things clunked out; the A/C doesnt blow cold air, but it does blow hard, and the rear wiper doesnt work. I tested the A/C on Saturday and it was fine. I never tested the rear wiper. I can hear the the rear wiper trying to work, but that it. I will get it into the dealership to have the factory recall performed. I might ask to see whats up with the A/C. The previous owner will hear from me tonight (I promise to be polite.... at first). I think I will perform a tune up; plugs, boots (or wires), oil change, tranny flush, maybe a coolant flush, maybe a fuel filter change, air filter, etc, belts, timing chain. If anyone in the Dallas area wants to come over and show me the ins and outs, be my guide, my Sherpa up the mountain of Pathfinderness please let me know. I will provide alcohol, food, ammunition, or a bit of cash for your time and wisdom imparted.
  14. The owner says it had small oil leak around the pan, but that it was a gasket issue and it was repaired 50,000 miles ago.
  15. I had the VIN run by a dealership, and it has a recall for corrosion on the strut tower. However the dealership says that is free of charge.
  16. Yes, the red one. I started it while the engine was cold, and it made no unwanted noises. I drove it around the block in Ft Worth, and it was fine, I could detect no unwanted noises or movements. As for calling Alkorahil, I know where he works, but I have no idea what his name is! I ran the VIN through NICB and it has no thefts or totals.
  17. Alright. I am going to take the plunge for this Pathfinder later this morning. If I am making a poor choice, please say so now.

  19. I got him to knock the price down from $4400 + TTL to $4200 OTD. Body has some minor issues. He detailed the car, and unfortunately the engine so there is no way of telling if it has leaks. Something that disappointed me was that the owner has it listed as "For Sale - Owner" on CL, but its actually a small time dealership. Anybody know of any Pathfinder experts in Ft Worth that would want to meet me at the lot to take a look at this? I'll treat them to lunch somewhere and watch the Cowboys, or something.
  20. OK, I drove the other 2004 Pathfinder SE I posted about. It runs well, makes no concerning noises. I couldnt find any leaks or problem spots. It will need new brakes soon. One thing that concerned me was the shifter for 2wd, 4wh, n, 4wl. When I shifted that, it got stuck in 4wd, and wouldnt return to 2wd. Owner asked a mechanic to come out, after I left. Called me and told me that when you return it to 2wd you have to put it in reverse instead of neutral, or something like that. Does that make sense to you? I have never had a selectable drive so I dont know whats up.

  22. I made an offer of $3000 on this Pathfinder yesterday. Seller said she would get back to me. We shall see.
  23. Sorry I forgot to give the code. Autozone's code was P0430. Apparently Courtesty Nissan confirmed it, according to the paperwork. Yeah, I may not be the most savvy person when it comes to working on cars, but I have been known to learn things! I offered the owner $3000, which I doubt they will take, but if they do, I will buy it. It would be awesome to link up with some DFW area members that are willing to take the time and show me how to do....things.
