  1. I read some where that the fuel tank from a Hardbody PU is mounted in a different place than the pathfinder. Find and mount a Hardbody fuel tank and convert it for water? Just an idea...
  2. First of all, BIG THANKS to everyone that helped out, and a big thanks also to this forum. This job would have been even worse if I hadn't read the "how to" section before I got started. And on the plus side, at least now I know how to change a starter and alternator. The lucky winner is.... Starter. The old, possibly original, Nissan starter was a pice of cake to pull out (and put back in). The new, remanufactured starter was a HUGE PITA to put in! Seems like the solenoid is in a slightly different position. I'll be keeping the old Nissan starter to have rebuilt and keep as an extra. I think what sent me down the wrong path to begin with was when the shop checked the battery and said it was fine, but needed a charge. I started thinking alternator. I guess the bad starter put a stain on an otherwise good battery? Oh well, the job is finished now and its running perfect.
  3. Bump started it and hooked it up to my neighbors handheld computer last night. Everything checks out fine. But, won't turn over. "Tapped" on the starter a few times and it turned very very slow, but started. Repeated this sequence a few more times just to be sure it wasn't a fluke. Guy at the shop told me that sometimes starters will bench check in good condition, but under pressure of the flywheel, they may not work. Guess I'll pick up a starter on the way home from work tonight. Good times!
  4. Thanks Alkorahil! I answered your questions in italics below. Just went out on my lunch break and checked. I bump started the truck and drove around the parking lot. The only thing I noticed was the swing away spare tire rack warning light was on but only when it is running. Even with the rack closed tight, the plunger wasn't pushing in far enough to turn the switch off. I don't have tools with me to adjust so I just jammed a wad of tape in there enough so that the warning light went off. Drove around for a while. Truck ran perfect. Everything worked (even A/C). Turned the truck off. Tried to start. Nothing. Happy I have a hill to park on. The answers to your questions below: A circuit it open somewhere draining the battery. The battery isnt charging because it has a bad cell(s). Had this checked. They said its a good battery The battery isnt getting a full charge from the alternator because of a bad alternator and/or corroded/loose wiring. Had it checked. They said its a good alternator some things to check: First off, are there ANY warning lamps on the instrument cluster that are on such as BATT or BRAKE? The spare tire rack warning light is on, but only when engine is running. Check the terminals to the battery are corrosion free and tight. Cleaned them yesterday. Check the fusible links to make sure they are not corroded. Not sure where these are located. Check all the interior lamps and make sure they are off. All off Check the five door pin switches, make sure they turn the lamps off and on with you press them. They work Check that any exterior lamps such as brake lamps or side markers are still on when the vehicle is off. All off If there is an aftermarket radio amp, that it is it powering off. There is, and it shuts off.
  5. Well, this is frustrating. Went to drive my truck yesterday and it wouldn't start. Everything worked, but starter didn't turn over. No click. Nothing. Took battery out and had it checked. Its good. Took alternator out and had it checked. It's good. Took starter out and had it checked. Its good. After I cleaned the wires going to the starter, and with a fresh charge on the battery, it started fine and I drove to work. When I went to start it again, it turned over very slow like it has a dead battery, and didn't start. I parked on a hill so, hopefully I can bump start it to get home from work. Any idea what is going on here?
  6. Thanks for the info guys! I used Monro-Matic Plus part # 32386 for a 1995 F-250 ($24.99 each). Needed to push out the the top bushings and replace with the old Nissan bushings. Other than that, an easy install. Definitely rides more firm, but not harsh. Less body roll too. Liking the way my Pathfinder is coming together already. Of course, lots more to do...
  7. Thanks Nefarious. I was going to pick some up today after work but couldn't find a definitive answer on which year and brand F-250 shocks to buy. Which do you use?
  8. So, the shocks were trashed so I didn't use those. Will be going with the Ford shocks soon. The springs added a little more than 2" of lift. Re-indexed the T-bars. Rides way better now, but a little bouncing in the back. Before: Just the back springs. Finished.
  9. Picked up the rear springs and Rancho shocks (along with sunroof cover, passenger door handle, and a few other misc parts). Heading back next week for trailer hitch, and matching Lego wheel for the spare. The springs are super beefy but, same length as stock springs (about 15"). I won't have time to install until next weekend. In the meantime, I'm wondering if they'll provide any lift, and will the ride be harsh?
  10. I noticed they looked beefier, but forgot to ask. Maybe I just found a complete lift kit? Anything else I should look for while pulling this that apart?
  11. I did a recon visit to the local pick n pull last night. Lots of great goodies to go back for this weekend. Want to make sure this is the correct Jeep to pull the front springs off (for a lift). It has a V8. Also, one of the Pathfinders has a full set of Ranco shocks. Do you think it's worth the trouble to pull these? Here's a close-up of the Jeep springs. Here's a photo of one of the Rancho shocks on a Pathfinder. Worth while to pill them? How to tell if they're any good?
  12. OK, about to pull the trigger on a lift kit. Need help making the right choice. 1994 Pathfinder. 172k. Most of my driving will be on paved or dirt roads, but I want my rig to be ready for rough terrain as we'll be driving down the Mexican Baja (all the way to Cabo, across to Mazatlan on the ferry, and down to Sayulita) and we want to be ready for anything. I'm only looking for a couple inches of lift. 2" would be perfect. Tires just slightly taller than stock and likely AT rather than mud. My torsion bars are already cranked to the max, but the front end is still sitting slightly lower than the rear. So, pretty sure my torsion bars are toast. Also, although I've been working on cars for years, this is my first 4x4 project, which is why I'm leaning towards a kit. This one seems straight forward. https://www.4x4parts.com/nissan/pathfinder-suspension-package-p-63.html
  13. Any one use air shocks in the rear of your Pathfinder? Was thinking it might be a cheaper alternative to springs, for 1" lift and more payload capacity. Also, where do you guys shop for parts?
  14. Here's a picture. Will be doing shocks and tires soon and not too excited about the wheels painted black.
  15. I'll admit it. I'm a recovering Toyota guy. However, I recently got a 2013 Frontier for my wife, and just a few hours ago, picked up a nice 94 Pathfinder for myself. We're planning a long drive down the Mexican Baja, over to Mazatlan on the fiery, and staying at our land in Sayulita for one year. We have about a year before we depart so plenty of time to get familiar with, and rebuild anything that needs my attention. Happy to find this soon to be valuable online resource.
