  1. Here comes more Cup holders from Caribbean

    morecupholders.jpg

We do need cup holders for cold beer, and also for Styrofoam glasses with Rum and Pepsi and Ice and lemon (Cuba Libre).

I am thinking also about USB fridge for one beer can.

    Something like this:

    140.jpg

    or like this:

    140.jpg

So this black cup holders (made in US) are no good, as beer keeps falling out when I accelerate a lot, I was thinking to add rubber band.

    140.jpg

The cup holder on the A/C vent is added just to cover my A/C vent trim that was broken...

As for spilling drinks, never happened to me, just beer.

Apparently there is not OEM Beer holder.

  2. I got Green Bi-Xenon, (low and high beam). Bulbs 9004.

My Pathy is more Hulk then Daredevil now (I was blind totally, with weak yellow 9004)... I was even using a flash light once.

Installation is easy, following the instruction, anybody can do it, my Dominican electrician, did it in 15 minutes, agreed price to install was 500 pesos ($13 usd), so I paid 600 pesos.

  3. Hi,

What happened at the end with your bushings?

Can you please make a list how many bushings to change for front, each side?

    I found:

    Upper control Arm Bushing.

    Front Strut Rod Bushing.

    Front Control Arm Bushings.

    Lower control Arm bushing.

How many of these for each side?

What about Sway Bar frame Bushing?

    Sorry for my ignorance.

Greetings from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

  4. Bought the kit with all, water pump, gasket for it...

The cat eat the gasket of the water pump, so I have ordered another one, that was lost in shipping...well it came late.

Gray silicon was used, instead of water pump gasket, and together with three seals.

There are three seals, and two are the same, and third is bit smaller.

So, to change this three little parts, you need to remove fan cover, upper hose of radiator.

Then, pull up fan cover (mine was broken at the top and hooked with plastic wraps.)

I bought before new radiator, as it is cheap for shipping, and it came from US to Dominican Republic with express post, 8.5 pounds, and 230 pesos per pound, one dollar is 38 pesos.

To come to the seals, you need to take all three belts, holders for belts and metal covers, until you see water pump.

Above the water pump you can see thermostat (mine looked dry with mushrooms, and my mechanic says that water runs trough).

It is smart to change thermostat or not? I did not.

So, when you take water pump, then add three seals, and put all back together.

Hoses needs to be checked if there are some cracks or brake on it, and all bracelets.

Lower hose (fat one) needs to be replaced (in my case).

    ....

and then I had to fix two more small hoses, did vapor cleaning after, fixed again lower fat hose (with silicon), and it looks like this

  5. You need the kit and the crank seal because you have to remove the timing belt to get to it and to do that you have to remove the waterpump and the timing belt covers. It is a lot of work to get to unfortunately. You may want to consider changing the timing belt at the same time if it hasn't been done for a while. Check your cam seals for leaking also, and it is a good time to change the thermostat and the bypass hose too. It's up to you how much to do, but it is the same amount of labor for eash item...

  6. Hi,

There is a oil leak at the front of Crankshaft, so mechanic told me that is "Retenedor del frente de Motor", that would be Frontal Crankshaft Seal.

I need help with defining what should I take:

    Crankshaft Seal, three of those?

    or

Crankshaft Seal kit, three of those, or one kit and three seals?

    Example, Crankshaft seal:

  7. Usually temperature is super low and everything was fine.

Yesterday, I have not checked the cooler (as it was always okay) and suddenly there was strong clicking sound, and car stopped, and turned off.

I managed to drive one mile more, very slow, and with strong sound.

At the parking, I have noticed that is leaking the cooler (it was dry totally).

Problem was with a tap for changing the cooler, it was broken and all cooler went out.

I could not find it here, the tap, as I am in Dominican Republic, Punta Cana, so we sealed the hole with two component sealer, and added new cooler.

    It works great.

I will buy new radiator on ebay, it is 60 usd.

    Thank you,

    Milos

  8. Passanger side, rare door can not open.

Latch from outside seams loose, as it is not moving anything.

Inside latch seams that is moving okay, but still can not open.

Child safety can be reached with screwdriver, but still can not open.

I removed the panel, and there are two horizontal strong tubes, for locking/unlocking, both are moving.

I can not see a thing, as door is closed, and I did not have a small mirror.

How and from where should I approach it?

    How to reach outside handle?

Is there any trick to open it from inside?

(not a big problem, but I tired telling people, please use the other door)

Maybe to get a sticker "use the other door, this one is locked" :)

Is it a door latch cable?

Found instructions here how to remove the panel (similar for rare one):

In what part of this manual can I find door:

  9. Do a tune up.

    Replace the six spark plugs

    Replace the distributor rotor.

    Replace the distributor cap.

    Replace the oxygen sensor.

    Replace the air filter.

    Change the oil.

Maybe even replace the spark plug wires themselves!

    Black smoke is gone.

    Changed 6 spark plugs.

distributor rotor, is that under distributor cap? On ebay is 7 or 16 dollars (silver and brown ones)

    http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=nissan+pathfinder+1995+distributor+rotor&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Found on ebay distributor cap, 25 plus shipping, two types, brown and black. Still I have old one.

    http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=nissan+pathfinder+1995+distributor+cap&_sacat=0&_odkw=nissan+pathfinder+1995+distributor+rotor&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

oxygen sensor, 45 usd, I read about it, found on ebay, maybe I will buy that one

    http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=nissan+pathfinder+1995+oxygen+sensor&_sacat=0&_odkw=nissan+pathfinder+1995+distributor+cap&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

air filter is new, 3.40 dollars plus shipping, and there are ones for 45 usd. I bought cheap one, and is clean.

    http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=nissan+pathfinder+1995+air+filter&_sacat=0&_odkw=nissan+pathfinder+1995+distributor+cap&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Changed the oil, oil filter, and added a bit of transmission oil.

On ebay there is also gasket for transmission oil pan (below the vehicle), and filter for transmission oil (came together).

plug wires are 40-80 dollars, mines working okay, had to cut one wire a bit (its shorter 2 cm), and it was easy to connect.

My father, military mechanic, told me over the phone, to test wires, in the dark, moving the very good isolated screwdriver along the wires, and if it sparks, then its broken there, and to be extremelly carreful for electricity schock.

Good trick they had to protect distributor cap with rubber gloves, so that water does not get in.

Anyway, on ebay you can not find 6 fingers gloves, but everything else, yes.

    :)

p.s. To get 6th plug, remeber hand mirror, light and monkey jumpipng over the motor.

And the pan for transmission oil has trick to come off.

  10. faulty coolant temperature sensor can make system think the engine is running too cool so it thinks it has to add more fuel to the system thus making it run rich and causing black smoke. Been there done that myself. Just a suggestion on something to check that's all.

Found one on ebay, search is: Beck Arnley COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR nissan 95 94 93 (30 usd).

  11. :welcome:

Nothing against Remax, understand it's your job and you have to publicise yourself, but taking that off was the best thing to do for your Pathfinder.

I like a lot the front grill with the headlight protection.

Yes, that sticker (hole car was covered with it) made a corrosion in many areas on the body.

Front grills area common in Dominican Republic, almost all pickup trucks, jeeps have it, also small and big buses.

You have to be careful driving in Dominican Republic, as there are lots of roads with holes (go Pathfinders), and lots of scooters and motorcycles that will try to pass you on the right side. Motorcycles are also Moto-taxis that are picking up the clients on the right side of the road, that is why they passing cars on the right side. And there is a rule, bigger car - more rights on the road.

As for Pathfinders, climate is constant summer (similar as in Florida, but less Hurricanes).

p.s. there is a different phone then it is on the sticker.

  12. Do a tune up.

    Replace the six spark plugs

    Replace the distributor rotor.

    Replace the distributor cap.

    Replace the oxygen sensor.

    Replace the air filter.

    Change the oil.

Maybe even replace the spark plug wires themselves!

What is the difference between Oxygen sensor with two, three and four wires?

How many oxygen sensors there are and where are they located?

    (ebay oxygen sensor)

    Thank you,

  13. Two weeks ago I have noticed a black smoke coming out from exhaust pipe. It just happened for a moment, so I did not put any attention to it, checked the oil after.

Blue smoke is oil. Black smoke is fuel. White smoke is antifreeze/water/condensation.

So, yesterday, it started when I turn the key on, RPM was oscillating (usually is okay.), then I noticed lots of black smoke behind, and then it disappeared, at first RPM was going down, then it was normal. And driving it, was as usual, except when I start the engine.

    What should I check first?

A friend of mine told me that the problem is with the plugs (over the phone), I am no mechanic at all...if you give me a laptop to fix, no problem, but cars...

I will do some images tomorrow, and more detailed explanation. (I have hours and hours reading about Black Smoke, only good thing is that Friday 13th just passed).

  14. Hello,

I live in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Caribbean, 12 months of summer, 82F average temp.

I work as real estate agent.

My Nissan is Pathfinder from 1995, it was covered with Re/Max sticker completely, so I took the sticker off, and found out that there is a corrosion at few spots.

Changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, battery, and fixed the A/C, transmission oil, transmission oil filter also.

I am not mechanic, my father is, but he lives in Belgrade, Serbia, South East Europe, that would be 5264 miles over Atlantic Ocean. That is why I am on this forum...

Basically it looked like this (now is all green, no sticker):
