  1. If I wanted a Chevy I would have bought one, and automatics HELL NO (those are for lazy people)! I like the V6, so I just want to have one ready! Sounds good on the TBI I just didn't know how good it actually is! I like the idea of the 3.3 though! Thanks for the input! Simon
  2. My 88 Pathfinder has 289,000 miles on it (original everything except alternator) and I am sure it is about to need an engine (rattling during start up). I want to start looking for an engine! So what are the difference's? I am thinking of a later model with SEFI! Now here's my real question, I can see alot of info on a alot of different builds, what I want to know is what is the best build for torque? Any suggestions would be great. Simon
  3. Dam engineers!!!! Ruined my fun! Oh well there goes $40!
  4. OK! The stock air cleaner is very restrictive! What I am going to do is fabricate a plenum that adapts the throttle body to run a 3" hose. Then I am going to mount an XJ air box with K&N in it, using the stock, but opened up, air location in the fender! SC88 that's a ram air, cold air means that you pull air from a location other than the engine bay, so the stock location is a cold air system. Just don't do what a friend of mine did and run it into the inside of his XJ, He could not figure out why He felt light headed all the time (just a hint he lives in UTAH and uses his A/C alot!!!!).
  5. Similar to stock but a larger hole! I want to run a snorkel so trying to keep it kinda stock!
  6. Here's what I am going to do! I am going to build an adapter to run an XJ air box in my Pathy. It will probably open up many options for different air filters as well. The reason is I am broke and have an XJ airbox with a K&N so I am going to use it. If it turns out well who knows. Tell me what you think, I think it might be a little more efficient. Simon
  7. Dana 44 is fine until you shear the spindle from seized bearings, and the wheel falls off (ITS CALLED MAINTENANCE PEOPLE!!!)! Seen that too! But the point is that the 30 would suffice if it's all you can get, however, you have to run the smaller bolt pattern which sucks!! There are about 4 waggy front axles in the TN craigslist and a few complete waggys for under a grand!! So the waggy axle is not hard to find! But watch out, only get the 4-door axle as it is the same width, all of the others are wider!!! By the way was it the stub breaking or was it the fact that the nut had not been pinned? I have a shop and have seen that way too often!
  8. Number 1: A Dana 30 front out of a Cherokee would be a reverse rotation front axle. If the shaft breaks the wheel does not fall off! Only if you break the outer stub shaft will it do that, also good luck on that, I run 37" tires on a locked and chromoed D30. Having said all of that, yes I would still go for the D44 as it can be built stronger and has the capability of using Locking hubs. The 30 can get locking hubs but they are extremely expensive. Also saying that the D30 is only good for stock tires shows your ignorance in the Dana 30! Simon
  9. Rough Country has just come out with a long arm that's cheap and well built. Never thought I would say this but it might be worth using a long arm after all at that price! Simon
  10. Hey finally some one that knows knows how to triangulate a fabricated structure! I hate seeing over built useless junk and like seeing well built engineered structures!!! Thankyou!
  11. Rough Country just came out with a super cheap long arm lift for the TJ! Same front as the XJ, they may have arms to be sold separately soon! I will check and report back! have a look at their site under TJ lift kits!!! The whole kit front and rear is only $1350, I wonder if the rear would be any help, I'll check it out. Simon
  12. Toyota IFS rear! Wider than early toy stuff by 3"!
  13. That measurement is from drum mount to drum mount the actual axle with drums or disks on is 61" I measured an axle I have in the shop!
  14. How wide is the Pathy I haven't measured it yet? The rear they have is IFS plus 2" which is 63" wide! The front will match! A waggy front is 63"!
  15. If you wait long enough, trail-gear is coming out with front drivers side and passenger side axle housings! Their rear is pretty cheap and works well, can't wait for the front! Also ruffstuffspecialties has a new housing for 9", toyota and super 14, but no ends are available yet, there are many available from other sources though. Simon
  16. I would read some of the other threads also, alot of information out there! Simon
  17. Excellent fab work! What is that thing? The only thing I can come up with is PATHZILLA!!! Simon
  18. Geometry can be fully set by the adjustment of the upper link on the XJ long arm! It is much longer than the F150 arm and you would get much better flex depending on the design! An XJ long arm is expensive as well! I have no problem with Short arm systems, in fact I have built a 2004 TJ with a ramp travel index on a 30 degree ramp of 850 and it is short arm, also rides very well! Lots of options to consider! Simon
  19. Why don't you use the knuckle system from trail-gear.com! They have a system known as the six shooter, uses 6 bolts for retaining the upper arm. It would also allow you to use A high steer system. These knuckles are also much stronger than stock units. Have a look! Simon Also if you meet Rae and Audrey Cullen out there! They are my Aunt and Uncle!
  20. Kits are great but you can piece together the kit for way cheaper than that! Have a look at: Ruffstuffspecialties.com And if you like Johnny Type joints check out trail-gear.com Also for tubing consult chassisshop.com You can put it all together! Send me some specs on your Pathy! Height, tire size you want to run and width of the front and rear axles! Also if you can send me total weight with all of your camping gear and such like, also the front weight and rear seperatly! If you can get me those specs I can design you a link system! Simon
  21. Check out completeoffroad.com for the steering conversion: Steering Try that! As for a good radius arm (if you have too) try cage products: Radius Arm Hope this helps. PS still think a well set link would be better!!
  22. Most Jeep XJ or TJ or ZJ long arms are typically a radius arm type set up. The upper arm is attached to the lower arm making it a radius arm setup. Thats the reason I don't use long arms on my Jeeps! Because as the suspension drops the knuckles do not retain their caster and when the tire turns it puts unusual force on the ball joints and tie rod ends! Hence people blame axle strength when the actual problem is they have no idea about suspension and steering geometry! If you are using a 4 or 5 link long arm then go for it! You will still need to make some custom brackets for the frame! Keep in mind that every suspension kit is developed for each individual vehicle, in other words, wheel base, track width and center of gravity! You will need to calculate these before you start, otherwise you might have some very bad on road experiences, such as severe brake dive bump steer and major roll on acceleration! If you need help PM me, I can help you wit the link set up! To help you look at a couple of link programs! I use a program called link-calc don't know if it's still around though. Good luck!
  23. Got it! It was the alternator! Spent 2 days removing all emissions! MUCH better!
  24. First of all my favorite Jeep is an XJ and the MJ, for you non jeepers thats the Cherokee and Comanche. They both share the front suspension used in the ZJ and TJ, again Grand Cherokee and 97 and up Wrangler. Death wobble is very common on all of these models. Your friends problem is the track bar and the steering, as Steveo said. They have to be parallel to each other. Lower your track bar using a frame (unibody) bracket and then drop the steering with a good quality pitman arm. NAXJA.ORG is a great site for XJ info. I would personally get rid off the y link steering and use one of the many steering conversion systems out there, Rockkrawler, Rocky Road both have great systems. Another option is to move the track-bar up into the steering stabilizer mount, I believe Skyjacker actually makes a track bar for this. Good luck. If you need any further info PM me so we can get the JEEP question off the NISSAN forum.
