  1. I took the pathfinder down a trail and managed to get it stuck. It is on fairly solid ground, but it is in a weird spot where the front of the truck is slightly lower than the rear, and most of the weight it seems is on the front wheels. But the rear wheels spin, but the front wheels dont move at all, as if it isnt in 4wd. Ive tried 4H, 4L same result. It was in 4H when it got stuck.

Any ideas? Ive tried digging it out, rocking, but the rear wheels just arent getting any traction. It seems the front wheels are just dead weight. I was wondering how the front-rear bias works, would it transfer more power to the front wheels if i put the parking brake on? or maybe the hubs just arent locking?

  2. ive been getting 16-18 mpg so far in my new pathy, mostly city driving. so for a 21 gal tank, thats about 350 miles/tank

Vengeful, you're right about that and I was a subscriber to that theory.

But then I hear from a good buddy of mine that works at a BMW dealership that they recommend using premium in everything.  Mind you, not all BMW's call for premium.  Got me thinking and questioning my logic.

I was just wondering if the 3.0 runs fine on regular.

running anything higher than 87 in these engines is pointless, higher octane fuel is harder to ignite, which means less power, less miles per gallon. maybe if your engine is modded for higher compression, then you might need higher octane to prevent knocking.. sounds like your bmw friend doesnt know what hes talking about

    btw, nice avatar! (rennwerkes) :aok:

  3. I ordered them from summit racing:

shipping was very fast, i ordered them on wednesday, they came in friday. shipping was free too!

anyway, I think the biggest backspacing they had available at summit for the 15x8 wheel was 4.75, they also have 4 and 3.75. Im sure if you used the lower backspacing, you would definately have to trim the heck out of your fender flares, if you have them

oh yeah, i weighed them out of curiosity before i got the tires put on them, and they came in at about 28 lbs a piece. Pretty heavy, but i suppose thats expected with a steel rim.

  4. well i went ahead and ordered them. ive seen pics of pathys with 15x8 and 4" backspacing (-12mm offset), but i dont like how the wheels stick out so far. I want a wider stance, but not that wide. plus ive heard negative offsets are bad for the bearings, etc.

I measured the stock backspacing on mine, and it is just under 5", so i think the 4.75 backspacing should be fine. Ill post pics when in get them. thanks for the tips!

  5. my 92 XE pathfinder has the chrome rims, and i want to go a little wider, but keep the stock ride height. after doing some searching, ive found out the stock chrome rims are 15"x6" with a backspacing of 4.75".

I found a set from US Wheel with a size of 15"x8" with a backspacing of 4.75". So according to those numbers, the new rims should stick out 2" further than stock, and still have 6mm positive offset so its not to bad for the bearings. Im planning on running 31"x10.5" BFG A/T tires with them.

Anybody have a similar setup? Will the extra 2" outer width rub the mud flaps or fender flares? Thanks for the help!

  6. if you'll be towing with your pathy (and even if you aren't) and it's an automatic, i suggest ASAP a tranny cooler. bypass the stock one.. they have a tendency to prematurely fry the auto trannys....

Thanks, after doing some reading on the forum, that will be my first upgrade.

thanks for all the responses, here are some pics i took today. still havent had a chance to wash it though. It has a lot of broken interior pieces, and i still need to take out the ****** window tinting

I did a lot of driving in it yesterday, and she seemed to hold up ok. The tranny seems to act funny sometimes, i was trying to pass somebody on the interstate, and the tranny felt like it shifted into 2nd and redlined the tach! I didnt even have it floored.

The other problem is it feels like it is always in 4WD mode, its hard to steer even in 2H. Ive driven other pathfinders before, and they felt the same way, but only in 4H or 4L mode. Is there any easy way to test to see if the front hubs are unlocked (they are the auto-locking type)?

  7. Hey, im new to the forum, i just bought a 92 pathfinder xe. 4wd, auto, 180k miles, all stock, straight body. Other than broken driver and passenger window switches, it looks to be in good condition. New timing belt, water pump, everything else original. Got a decent deal, $1800. I plan on using it for towing and maybe some offroading on the weekends, maybe daily drive it during the summer, since it is my only vehicle with working AC now, lol. Tomorrow im going to flush the fluids, and do a tune up. Ill take some pics tomorrow and post them

  8. Thanks for the help. i live in charleston, sc. I was hoping it would just need a fluid change, and i could use the grinding tx case to talk the price down. he originally asked 2800 for it. It looked completely stock. Are the transfer cases easy to swap out on these trucks? I am fairly mechanically inclined, im a big rotorhead, ive pulled and replaced the engine and tranny in my RX's several times..

again, thanks for helping out a noob. =)

  9. Im looking to buy a 90-95 pathfinder 4wd, and test drove a 92 yesterday, but had some problems. I came to a stop to test the transfer case.. left it in D, tried to shift from 2H down to 4H, but it would grind. I tried putting it in N, and it still grinded. I got it stuck in N, and couldnt get it into a 4x4 mode without grinding, so i shut the engine off and tried again, and it started making some weird noises. Anyway, i eventually got it into 4H, and drove it back to the dealer.

Any ideas what the problem is? Could it just use a fluid change? It will shift, but it just is really finicky. He said he would take 2500 for it, i think hes asking too much. The bumper is dented, but other than that is looks to be in good condition for 191k miles.

    Thanks for the help!
