  1. I'm glad there are a few people like us on this forum that aren't afraid to jump right in and just do it.
  2. I recieved a lot of criticism and bad advice when I first started working on my turbo project. A lot of people said it was not physically even possible to install vg30dett. Now after a lot of hard work I am pretty close to being done. Everything is bolted in and I am running the wiring right now.
  3. The turbos are down low on both sides of engine towards the rear...(right where the starter would normally mount), which requires a special transmission with starter relocated to bellhousing and coming in from the rear. I still have to mount 2 inercoolers, plumb up twin intakes coming together into one MAF sensor/air filter, run AC lines, PS lines, etc, etc...plus the rewiring. This will require a hood scoop due to the only mounting location being on top of the engine and will protrude out of hood. I have most of the parts I will need for all this already ordered and I'm still shooting for this project to be up and running before April 25th...which is when our group plans on going to Little Sahara, OK for "Snakehunt Weekend" which is a big ATV/ sand car rally at the sand dunes in Oklahoma. I will try to take more pics of project as I go and hope to have video of it in action hill shooting sand dunes within next 2 months.
  4. You got me fired up to post an update of my twin turbo project after reading this...LOL. I am glad to see some other interest in this type of engine upgrade in this forum. Keep up the good work, and I agree, a video of it in action would be awesome!
  5. After finishing the transmission and oil pan project last month...( search for "going to twin turbo pathfinder"), I have moved on to the fabrication of getting this damn beast to FIT! I have had the engine in and out of the vehicle 12-15 times trying to make room and have finally found it. I now have the transmission and engine bolted in with the alternator AND AC compressor. All clearances are insanely close but I have very secure mounts and feel it should all be adequate. I will remove it all one last time this weekend to replace several solenoids in rear, and replace hoses with silicone replacements. Within the next week, it should all be back in and bolted permanently with transfer case, new clutch, etc... and I can soon start the wiring and intercooler plumbing. I will throw a few more pics of it from past week. As you can tell from the last pic....clearances are very tight and precise mounting location is VERY critical on this conversion.
  6. Here it is...a 5 speed with the turbo style bellhousing (with relocated starter window design)...and a 4WD rear half. I am ready to bolt up the transfer case now.
  7. Finally finished! This is a huge leap forward on this project....
  8. Transmission project: Build a Hybrid transmission from Nissan 4X4 parts and 300ZX parts....CHECK!!!!
  9. Update on the Pathfinder project. I have been pretty busy at work, but still trying to manage to keep moving forward on Nissan project. I have engine, transmission, and transfer case out... and suspension and body lifts installed.
  10. The bellhousing on a 300zx trans is larger to accomodate the larger flywheel used from all the information I have been reading so far. The TT clutch is larger than the NA clutch for sure....9 7/8 compared to 9 7/16 Also, even the 300zx clutch setup will be extremely stressed in a heavy 4wd application.
  11. I have a 3" body lift and a Calmini 3" suspension lift ordered already.
  12. This is true, and even with relocated turbos, the pathfinder trans only allows for the smaller clutch/flywheel, which may not handle the power of the turbo engine.
  13. Stock engine is mostly unbolted and ready to remove. I will then remove transmission and start trying to crossbreed a 300ZX trans to a 4WD trans.
  14. Lets try a pic of the VG30DETT engine that basically covers the entire pallet it rests on. LOL. Sorry for picure quality...I took this one with my cell phone.
  15. Lets first try a picture of the vehicle. Its not pretty, but gets abused hard and I am not overly concerned about body appearance, so dont laugh. I may address some rust and dent issues later....maybe. LOL [/img]
  16. Thanks bud! I figured I would have to do something like that. I will try a pic and see if it works.
  17. Project is going slow but sure right now. Been real busy at work, but I have the engine and have been gathering a shopping list of parts needed yet for the project. The stock 3.0L is almost ready to be pulled from the vehicle, and I am getting ready to order the lift kit for the suspension. I need to figure out how to add pictures. Do I have to use an outside host for the pics?
  18. Four cam heads usually have a great power band, and lets not forget the VG30DETT engine has variable valve timing!
  19. Just ordered the VG30DETT today. Engine,5 speed manual, wiring and ECU for $1800 shipped. Going to try to make this happen for about another 1000 to 1500 bucks plus my labor. Going to install a body lift and suspension lift also. It is mostly just to clear larger tires, but might help clearance issues on the swap also.
  20. Yeah....I keep hearing that a lot. We will see. Only one way to find out!
  21. I do not agree with a lot that has been said that is negative about the transformation project, and I am ordering the VG30DETT engine and trans tomorrow and will start a project to prove this swap possible. Its easy to say it wont work, I will throw a little elbow grease at it this winter and come out in the early spring with a twin turbo 95 Pathfinder to prove you wrong. I will keep it fairly low budget and use it hard when I am done. I may not have a lot of posts on this forum, but trust me, I have researched heavily, own my own repair shop, and am an ASE master tech...I feel this is VERY possible for a reasonable investment.
  22. From my measurement so far, the wheelwells are the least of my worries..LOL Engine measurement almost same as frame rail width, and may require clearancing of frame...Steering shaft may be a bit of a problem.
  23. Well, after lots of research and a lot of negative feedback on the subject, I am accepting the challenge of installing the VG30DETT twin turbo engine in my 1995 Pathfinder. I will try to take pics of the project and will be ordering the engine/trans tomorrow to begin my winter project. I mostly use this Pathy for running the sand dunes at Little Sahara State Park so I feel the twin turbo is a great way to build hill shooting power while still keeping it somewhat lightweight....plus I just love turbocharger noise the sand rails make on the dunes, so I hope mine sounds similar.
  24. Because everyone like to talk sh*t and criticize instead of encouraging someone to try it and lending support. Dont be an a$$
