  1. I found it just like you said. Real B#@^H getting all that apart, though. The real tiny light was behind the climate control panel where the slots are for the heater/vent controls to move back and forth. The knobs do pop off, but the panel wasn't too easy to get behind, then you have to twist this miniscule bulb out of its socket WITHOUT breaking the tiny wires or the bulb. Stealer wanted $16.99 for the bulb......Got it at Napa for $2.49. How do those guys sleep at night ? Oh, wait....the quality of their parts is sooooo much better than Napa, right ?
  2. Ok, I think I've found it....adjacent to the darn filter. Grounded when there is low pressure, goes to high (Open) resistance when there is sufficient pressure. Does this sound right ?
  3. '95 pathy w/4X4 and 5spd manual. Where is the oil pressure switch sender unit ? I'm pretty sure it works, because it was on for a tiny second after I changed the oil, but went off right away upon starting...
  4. Why is the heater and temp slide control area not illuminated ? AC button is lit, but there doesn't seem to be a bulb for the heater controls. Can't really manipulate them in the dark ? Of course they do have a tiny light for the ashtray, though....Big priority... This is on a 95 pathy w/5spd. Am I missing something ?
  5. Well, it was the end of the day and I didn't realize it was still off center until I'd already paid and walked out the door. Then I went back and they gave me that story about the airbag "Can't be centered, it only mounts one way on the shaft due to the airbag". I was pretty sure it didn't have an airbag....Guess I'll have to tackle it on my own. How do the Tie Rod ends affect the steering wheel being about 20 degrees to the left when the wheels are straight ?
  6. My pathy was wrecked (Fender bender) on the RF corner. I did have the alignment done, and the steering wheel is still a little off center when I'm driving straight down the road. Alignment shop guy says that cannot be fixed 'cause the steering wheel only goes on to the shaft one way due to the air bag system ? The Haynes manual has a notation about how you really need to be careful to mark the position BEFORE pulling the steering wheel, so you can get it back on in the same exact position. (They are also warning you not to hammer the steering shaft) I'm thinking I want to pull the steering wheel, shift it about 20 degrees clockwise, and then re-mount it to fix this problem. I don't think this truck has air bags...I don't have a real Nissan manual. Please tell me this is a good idea. Since I figured out the stereo wiring my confidence is pretty high.... P.S. What engineering genius decided to put the oil filter adjacent to the hottest engine component ? (It is OK for me to say that 'cause I'm an engineer) And what moron previous owner put the friggen filter on with the torque wrench setting on "Godzilla"... I don't need the filter on that tight, right ? I just hand tightened it and it doesn't seem to leak...
  7. I figured it all out. Like I said, the install doc doesn't really help. Here is what I figured out: R Rear - = Pink wire R Rear + = Blue L Rear + = L Grn L Rear - = Purple AND Pink (Why ? 'cause of the OEM amp ?) R Front + = Pink R Front - = Blue L Front + = Purple L Front - = L Grn The red / grn wire from the Pathy is Ign Power ON. I used this one to power the pioneer. There is also a Pink / Blue wire that is 12 v all the time. I used this one for pioneer power on all the time. The Red wire from the Nissan is for the power ant. I created my own ground with a solid lug to the chassis. There are still three unknown wires, a gray, a pink / blk, and a pink / blue. I've done enough damage for one day, we will leave that alone. Sound does work and Fader / balance does send it to the appropriate speaker and shut off all the others...
  8. Unfortunately I did view this install doc prior, and it doesn't really help. Here is what is in the install doc. Blk / pink, Lt. Grn, Blk / Yel, Grn / Red, Brn, Blue, Red / Yel, Blk / Red, Blk / Wht. These 8 wires are for speakers according to the install doc. I only have two of the Lt. Grn wires, and two blue wires, on the radio harness coming out of the dash. I don't have Blk / Pink, Blk / Yel, Grn / Red, Brn, REd / Yel, Blk / Red, or blk white. Unfortunately this install doc in no way matches my dash wiring at all. I do have two purple, two pink, two blue, a gray, two lt grn, and a few others. I do know these go to speakers cause they crackle when touched. I guess I'll have to hack it through using the fader and balance. Not even close enough to make a rough guess. By the way this pathy has the 8 speakers like he said. Two tweeters in front vertical support, two front door speakers, two rear roof speakers, two rear roof tweeters.
  9. I have the schematic for the stereo I'm trying to install, but the stock wiring harness has been hacked off with a machete (Friggen maniac previous owner !). The chilton and haynes manual are less than specific about this model and year. This pathfinder has 5spd, rear window defroster / wiper, power mirrors, and most of the goody doodads. I believe it came with a fob for alarm control, who knows where that is... Anyway, I've figured out the power / GND issues, but I can't seem to get the speaker wiring figured out. There are six speakers in the truck, 2 tiny ones on the front vertical support alongside the windshield, 2 front door speakers, and 2 rear top mounted speakers. I can get sound out of all 6 speakers (I think), but I can't get the Fader / Balance to correctly control all of them. I have 2 pairs of blue, 2 pairs of pink, 2 pairs of grey, and three other unknown (I forgot the color, I'm working outside and it is 28 degrees (No comments from people in the Midwest)) wires left over. I know at least some of them are not related to speakers, they are related to the instrument dimmer wiring.
  10. Since my '95 pathy has low mileage (67k), and the minor leak at the r-side manifold is really mild (Barely putters when cold, shuts off when hot), I've been told you can get in there and tighten down the manifold on a regular basis. If you keep up on it, you'll never get to the broken stud stage. Can this be done ? Work hot or cold ? PB blaster lube to get them loose or not ? P.S. Which engine do I have ? How do I tell ?
  11. Precise1 you are the man ! I will try out filling with the extra quantity of the "correct" lubricant. Thans a lot...
  12. They did say it was "far" out of alignment, but nothing damaged. Do I still need a tranny cooler with a 5spd ? I thought that wasn't necessary. Also there don't seem to be any place to grease the suspension components ? What is the deal with that....Even my ancient Ford pickup had grease fittings. Nissan has invented a moving joint that doesn't require grease ? Nice....
  13. Well in terms of being ill-used I do know it was wrecked on the RF corner...That fender has been re-mounted badly, and still doesn't fit properly w/the corner of the hood and R-side front door. I did have it aligned and they said it was definitely out....Not sure of the cause.
  14. I've only had it a few weeks, but it is steering kinda mushy. Has stock shocks all the way around and only 67k miles. I'm wondering if aftermarket shocks would improve the handling ? I'm also going to be doing a little towing (16' boat, 1450Lbs total), wouldn't the shocks help with that ? I did the bounce test front and rear. Front goes up / down 4 times, rear goes up/down twice. I do have 10.5" wide 31 inch tires.
  15. This vehicle does have fog lamps (Clear) installed within the front bumper, they look factory stock ?, left one is shattered. It also has a switch on the center console which I thought was for them, it is for sure a factory Nissan switch. The small toggle switch and pushbutton switch just below the hood release pull handle are for sure after market. I just don't have a clue what they are for... They are soooo far down and back it would be really tough to manipulate while driving, I'm leaning toward them having something to do with the alarm system, but mostly the alarm system is stock on these vehicles, right ? Like for example, you want to pop the hood, and you somehow use these buttons to disable the alarm. Most alarm systems try and prevent access to the engine compartment, right ? And by the way, what does that red led mean just below the cruise control. It is on solid on all the time and I do have the alarm switch in the off position. Correct ? I do want Oil Pressure and it sounds like that won't be much trouble. I did a T connection on my other truck, and the worst problem was getting that little tube up to the dash. I also do want Charging Current not voltage. A dead battery still measures the right voltage (without much load), what I like to know is how much current is going into and out of my battery at all times. Seems to me that is a better way to track what is going on with your whole charging / discharging system. I know battery voltage is easy, that is why I asked about charging current. The chilton manual does have some quasi-accurate schematics, so I will try and figure out some why of monitoring the charging / discharging current. When I get it working, I'll post the information here. I guess you all are correct on the little roller switch. It must be for instrument dimmer. It sure doesn't have any effect on the instrument brightness. How in the heck do I take all that plastic crap apart ? I hate prying all this stuff apart, then the clips / tabs / slots break off, and you are stuck with a mess of broken plastic parts which you can't find in the right color at the junk yard. Maybe some one who has done a stereo could help me out.... Stereo doesn't work either, guess I'll be in there sooner or later anyway. This truck doesn't have a stock stereo at all, there is a Pioneer CD player stuck in there, but it doesn't light up at all... The temp guage is working better now, swapped out the sensor and cleaned the contact, it reads slightly under 1/4 scale with the truck fully warmed up (Takes about 5 minutes). And it is only getting up to 40 or so ambient during the day up here...
  16. Small roller switch with light bulb icon just below the left-center heater "regulator" (Vent to us normal people) and just to the left of the Hazard light switch. What does it do ? Instrument dimmer ? Doesn't seem to do anything. How does the alarm system work and what does the rocker switch on the center console do ? Near my hood release pull handle on the plastic trim piece there are mounted two switches with gray wires. One toggle switch, one pushbutton switch. Obviously aftermarket add-ons.....What do they do ? Don't seem to do anything. I do have a problem with the temp sensor. With the truck fully warmed up the temp guage reads just barely above the bottom line. I assume this is wrong. Wire to the sensor is reading about 8.5 VDC when disconnected, and if you ground it the guage reads FULL HOT. This tells me the guage is working right ? Guage reads absolute zero when this wire is disconnected. I'm thinking to try a new sensor ? This truck doesn't have an alternator guage or oil pressure guage. How can I add them on after market ? These are two critical readings I'd really like to keep track of...
  17. I will use it for light towing (1600 lbs) and as a primary transportation. I will get a MANUAL tranny. What year ranges are the best reliability ? I'm planning on buying an older one and rebuild the engine. What persistent problems, other than the Exhaust Manifold, should I look out for ? I will be getting the V6 engine also...Is the 3.0 L all they offer ?
