Hi all! I'm not sure if a '97 could have the same problem with the tach, but all you '95 & older owners may experience something like I have. My '90 Terrano ( it's an rhd pathy with a 2.7 turbo-diesel, as Canada allows 15-yr olds from overseas to be imported ) has the same sticking needle thing described by Bear claw. I took my cluster lens off to discover that years of sun & heat had warped the needle so that the tip was dragging on the guage face, leaving a light rub mark on the outer perimeter of the tach face. A temporary solution was to simply bend it back with my fingers, which worked for a short while but didn't last. I then overzealously snapped it off on the 2nd attempt, forcing me to the wreckers yard for a suitable replacement. Anyway, that's my windy story for today.
  2. Pathys don't have gutter rails like Land Cruisers and Rover Discos, but does that mean it's impossible to put 1,500 lbs on the roof like those other guys can? A roof-top tent etc. is what I have in mind. Does anyone know of a roof rack mounting system compatible with Pathfinders that can handle substantially more than the 300 lb. limit of Yakima brackets? A local rack shop guy told me I'd have to get one custom made, and even then.....
  3. of course we're trying tosplit hairs a bit , but pathy's weigh 3795 lbs and epa rates them @ 18 mpg hwy. ford explorers tip the scales @ 3915 lbs but get 20 hwy. I was just wondering if anyone knew what might explain this . I suppose it might just be that with a 4.0 litre the explorer is slightly less underpowered stock, but that's easily rectified. I only thought of the hubs because the old chev 4x4's with solid axle leaf spring susp. and manual hubs got noticeably better fuel mileage than their auto hub counterparts in the late '80's-early 90's
  4. Does anyone know if the reason pathfinders don't get the fuel economy you might expect from a vehicle of it's size and weight is because of the automatic hubs, and can they easily be changed to a Warn or similar manual locking hub ?
