  1. Forecast has changed.  Now calling for up to 20cm of snow on the passes (over 800m) in the next 24 hours.

Wife is supposed to drive over the Coq this afternoon to Langley.  She may pass on that drive.

i hate how us americans use english measurements =P i'm all for metric hehe

  2. this happened with my keyless remote. when you press the unlock button does it press down more then it usually would? it turns out in mine that the actual button inside the remote got disconnected from the solder or w/e and fell away from its seat. so if thats the case you gotta get a new remote.

yep, this is what happened to my cousins 98 keyless remote. the button has 4 solder points at each corner (the button sits in a square housing). An easy solder job if youve soldered before.

  3. I guess I better check how many wires I have :D

I was reading up on bosch website too. If I find a good priced one on ebay ill buy it. That NTK above is only $40 and I checked on some other site it cost $109. :aok:

weups, yea 88's right. 2 or 3. they sell o2 sensors on ebay for pretty cheap (around $18 US each)...but i guess that's not a good option if you want to replace the sensor ASAP

  4. i don't know if any spark plug would cause that much of a mpg drop. but just in case, the spark plug gap should be between .039-.043 inches, or 1.0-1.1 mm. how does your air filter look?

  5. So an additional external cooler isn't really necessary for an R50?

i think that we all tend to agree that a tranny cooler on an r50, or any pathy for that matter, is a good precautionary measure and will definitely lengthen the life of your transmission. $50 well spent considering the expensive price tags placed on transmissions, let alone the labor to install one.

  6. Whoa!!

I wonder what # i should use. I am in San Diego (bottom left corner of the US)

but I travel to Baja all the time..

I'm gonna use 5.... mine was set on "0"

hehe fueler, i don't know what mine's set at as i never went into calibration mode. maybe it's set on 0 for default?

  7. i too am wondering which brands are good. in the last thread where o2 sensors came up, i hear that it doesn't really matter, just make sure you know if you're replacing a four or three-wire o2 sensor...and quite frankly, i don't even know which of those i have =P i just wanted to replace them before they go out as preventative measures.

  8. There isn't one. When you run the engine, the pump will pump fluid through the lines for you and the bubbles will run out on their own. Then just top it off.

Putting synthetic in with regular is fine if you want.

I've hardly heard of anyone with an R50 complaining of the auto dying...they changed the cooler design after 95.

that makes a lot of sense....thanks!

  9. It's very easy.

Most of them come with those thru-radiator mounting clips. Attach it using those. Hook up the lines, flush out the air in the system, and bada-bing-bada-boom. Check your fluid level and add as needed.

hey venge, what's the process for flushing air out of the ATF system?

  10. i'd totally do this if it was a direct bolt on (i'm not good at fabbing things up). so do you totally remove the clutch fan and its components? what about the belt that drives the fan?

turbo, do you have the t-stat/relay setup? or just a switch? how would you hook a lead up to the t-stat? or is there already a sensor of some sort that triggers the fan?

  11. oh man, that whole holding up the door handle part took me FOREVER to figure out. being that this was only my second vehicle, and my first wasnt an import it was sooo confused. until someone told me i was closing the door, opening the back door, and reaching up and pushing the looks down haha

lol....yea, on some models, you have to hold the door handle up =P

  12. hmm that looks pretty cool. UHaul also sells one...$46...i've been looking at this one to replace my stock tranny cooler

EDIT: you're gonna put it in line with your stock one? maybe it'll make your ATF too cold?

also...Amazon sells the B&M for $40 and free shipping, FYI =)

  13. It's also possible that your thermostat is stuck on open...

if your t-stat is stuck open, your temp gauge should drop pretty low at highway speeds, then go back to the middle at low speeds or at a stop...this happened in my celica. also, if you have the automatic climate control, it won't blow hot air unless the engine is warm enough.

but since you're wondering how long ours take, here's how mine is. when i was in tahoe last winter, maybe around 17-25 degrees F and snowfall, it took a good 10-15 minutes before the temp needle got to the middle. Here in the city, it's about 45-50 F in the morning nowadays, and it takes about 5-8 minutes for it to get to normal temp.

  14. Yeah your just going to have search like crazy all the pathfinder boards to see what certain individuals have done to gain power out of their VG33 - it won't be extreme but I think it has great potential to be a very decent and capable off-road motor. Like Turbopath said 98Silverpathy said that the cams worked great his pathy just had other underlying problems. Anyway there is a great pool of knowledge here so welcome and don't hesitate to add to it!

indeed...welcome and let us know how your progress is going!

here's that nissan racer i was talking about. i think it was running 30+ PSI boost producing over 700 hp (from what i remember). finished first/top 5 in many GTP races...that's 250+ laps....major endurance! =) proof that these engines can take a beating.

the above is from the early 90's...below is the one of the 80's, also using the vg30 block, awesome car...look at the flames!

  15. thats the one that i have but it doesnt seem to be complete

what information are you looking for? it's exactly the same one you download directly from the nissan website. keep in mind that there are SEVERAL pdf files, and each one is a section from the manual.

  16. The VG33 has a lot of potential.  There are a few high hp ones out there.  The problem is, most of the people around here who do stuff to them blow up their tranny or have something else go wrong.  It's rarely the engine itself.  And 99.9% of the engine problems experienced were installer error.  ie...poor 98silver's cams getting installed by a mechanic who didn't care to check nissan specs before doing the job.

yea i agree. remember the nissan GTP ZX Turbo? i believe it was racing in the 80's into the early 90's?man that car was sweet, and it was running the vg30. if i'm not mistaken, the vg33 is just a bored out version of the vg30.
