So here we go... OME medium front and rear springs OME shocks KYB GR2 struts 35mm Snake Racing Strut Spacers BEFORE: AFTER SPACERS Let me know what you think.
-
Can't complain about the sliders I got from them, except the install instructins were wrong...but the product was good! Regardless the spring thing is a joke. I've talked to a few guys, including ARB directly and everyone indicated the true HD were really not such a good idea unless you have an aftermarket bumper (ARB, go figure). The reason given was that there isn't enough weight in front of a stock R50 to compress the HD springs enough, making the ride really tough. Yeah it will raise the front a good bit, but at the cost of a reasonable ride. The weight chart you included is what I have heard as well. This does make unfortunate sense as I have heard different responses on the HD coils and it must depend on where they were purchased from. Good luck man - anxious to know what happens.

Glad I cancelled my order!! - Thanks for figuring this out.

Went through this as well. ARB told me that Rocky Road includes some sort of spacer that adds the height. Now I know they sell a trim packer, but it sounded like there was yet a separate thing. The guy at ARB was really nice, but it seemed he was tired of answering the question. FYI - last time I spoke to Rocky Road, the OME coils were on like a 4 week back-order. He said it wasn't the supplier (I assume ARB) but that they were just behind. This was like 2-3 weeks ago. The rest of the order came in great time. I cancelled the coils, etc and had a local shop order direct from ARB. They were delivered in like 4 days. Installing this Wednesday!

The man and beast (i.e. Border Patrol and dogs) are not always the issue. Don’t forget the x-ray scanners you drive by when going over the border. We have them down here from the south at some entry points. These are very sophisticated scanners our tax dollars installed; you’d be surprised the detail. Anything that looks out of place or weird will trigger an alert. Then come the dogs and tool boxes to take apart whatever they want. EDIT: from http://www.kvoa.com/global/story.asp?S=10038544 (local news, Tucson, AZ) The vehicle x-ray is called the Z band Backscatter Van (ZBV), which effectively x-rays a vehicle and reveals contraband or illegals in the vehicle. When the semi was ran through the scanner Wednesday it made it's illegal cargo obvious to border agents, says Border Patrol. Since its implementation in the Tucson Sector, the ZBV has been used 650 times and discovered a total of 1600 lbs. of marijuana. Tucson Sector agents have arrested over 80,000 illegal aliens during the first five months of Fiscal Year 2009.

Nothing - Absolutely nothing. Sad really...I think I'll go put something in it just because.

Finally did it huh? Good for you! Post pics Should be done on Wednesday. Really wondering if I should upgrade the tires to M/T's while I'm at it...but there is the $$$ factor. Picked up the rear diff guard from RockyRoad. That'll be welded on maybe Thursday. Also found a set of PIAA 1100X lights I'd like to fit in the lower section of the front bumper - either side of the license plate. Seems like a good place for some extra light. Pics to come - and maybe I'll actually get the thing off road in the next few weeks what a crazy idea
-
That'll work for sure! Has anyone used their skid plates, or the other mods they are offering (NX4Industries)?
-
Never heard that before - I'll have to give it a try.

I run premium 91 becuase it's close in price to regular. Ran regualr 87 for years with no problems. Now that prices aren't at $4+, the difference comes to a few dollars a tank. I like the performance increase with 91 so it's worth it to me. When prices go up again (and yes I said when), I'll might go back to regular.

Yeah - they use the same stock picture for all of them. You'll have to look for each, but the 35mm is about 1.38". (www.onlineconversion.com) I'm going to put these on with OME Medium coils. ARB says the Medium should bring 15mm over stock, based on the vehicles they tested. I know everyone has had different experiences, blah, blah, blah.... As advertised, the 35mm spacer + 15mm springs = 50mm lift or 1.96". I'm expecting at least 2.5" from where I currently sit as it's sagging like an old b**b. What I expect is that this won't extend the strut too much risking topping out. I'm also looking at having the front diff dropped about an inch to keep pressure off the CV's. Putting on Warn hubs anyway though. I'll look into a stiffer strut when my KYB's wear out to minimize top out risk, even though i know it's low risk with OME coils anyway. The Medium coils are going on the back with OME shocks. If it sits low in the back, I might have to even up the rear! I'm very lucky to have been able to get these struts. Maybe someday I'll actually get there myself.

Technical drawing isn't my gig, but if I can find someone to do it, I'd be more than happy to share.
-
It's awesome to me that everyone is so feisty about strut spacers. If you don't think it is worth it, don't buy them. They were worth it for me, so I did and I'm happy. I thought I'd share what I found. I am fully aware that I could go to a shop and have something made for less, but I didn't want to deal with having to explain a bunch of s**t to someone that hasn't done it before. And since I havn't done it myself, I opted to buy. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Mickey Thompson Classic Lock. They are bolt on's, but the cool effect d**m close and cheaper. These are powder coated black.

For clarification, they cost me $145 US. The web shows AU$. In any case, I'll post some pictures as soon as they are on. I'm not actually doing the work but will try to get as much as a can from the guys doing it. I'm not an expert with this, but from what I can tell from various conversations I've had, the spacers don't extend the strut or spring in any way. They basically place the top of the strut lower. The stiffer springs will actually place the strut in an extended position and cause the strut to be the limiting factor. I'm planning on combining these spacers with OME springs. Also, I’m looking into fabricating new brackets for the front diff, effectively lowering it and therefore placing less angle stain on the CV's. You’ll all know how the final setup goes… Here is my Q.

Thank you! That's what I thought. As I said ealier, not sure shipping costs as I was lucky enough to side step that, but quality is great, they are the only one's I've seen with the mutiple size options as well. I'll let you know.
-
I expect it and it does't bother me. Frankly, I haven't seen anything as good quality, and sometime quality costs money. On the other hand: 1) it gives those who were really curious about them a picture as the one on the web isn't right, 2) anyone who is making them might take a design idea from them. I thought we were here to help each other out

Just started a new topic on the spacers. The image they use on their site is misleading. The real ones are the correct shape, and a very nice quality.
-
Don't know if any of you have used these, but I thought I'd share a pic. These are the Snake Racing (www.snakeracing.com.au) 35mm strut spacer. Had a buddy bring these in from Australia. Direct from Snake Racing, they offer sizes ranging from 15mm - 50mm. Very nice quality. The bolt holes are threaded, and the set comes with longer bolts, etc.
