  1. Couple days ago I had both belts changed on my 2001 Pathfinder. I was there when he (mechanic) finished it, tested it, no squeaking. Next morning I started it and squeaking noise lasted for 5-10 seconds and then stopped. I noticed it happening now every time the engine is cold started. Are the belts too tightened?

    Nick

I've had the same problem. The belts have loosened; they are still good but need to be retightened.

It's really annoying and super-loud...mine would wake up the whole neighborhood.

  2. What year tail is that? Might go good with the set of clear corners I'm getting from InifinitiQX4X4 a.k.a. Ed

99.5+ is the tail on the right. As said before, you need a new wiring harness. I believe if you get the early QX4 tails you just use your existing harness. I prefer the early QX4 tails myself. They would also go well with clears.

  3. Oh, and OR99.5... *somehow* the Land Rover didnt get stuck in any mud or water... but AFTER it went through what I'm shown going through here, we all parked and got out for a few minutes... and somehow when the rest of us all started up again, the LR was completely stuck... it got stuck on dry land, but not in mud

Land Rover's are heavy and when stock, have small contact patches. They're known to get bogged down in sand, but can chug through mud.

And I thought you were going to say that the LR didn't start!

  4. Looks good. Could the popping be a rear coil becoming unseated?

Come to think of it, when my stock suspension is fully flexed in the rear, it makes a popping noise. I think it's just the whole rear flexing...not sure.

  5. shouldnt the tranny work since it is manual? I thought you could use manuals from nissan v6s on all nissan v6s, well trucks at least. Swapping the engine would be too much work, just replace it with a jdm and if your looking for more hp do the cams. I think they bring you to 210.

Not a bad idea...I guess I could convince Dad to order the JWT cam...the mild one. If it adds 15+ hp I'd be happy...I just want more midrange!

  6. Thanks XPLOR.

I wasn't sure if my manual tranny was the same as the VQ's manual trans, of if the housing was different. My problem is that wrecked manual Pathfinders aren't terribly commonplace. I figured an ECU would need to be swapped; not sure about bracketry, mounts, etc. All hidden costs.

Any ideas of where to search for a wrecked R50, preferably in Atlanta? If this project is too complicated I doubt it will get off the ground, but I just want to be sure.

  7. Nissan is the Japanese Dodge.

The build quality on my Pathfinder has been fine, but that was the old Nissan. Mom's Murano is a nice car, but the interior feels cheap.

Nissan's new cars have poor quality. And GM has been catching up.

  8. First off, I don't know what forum this should be in. I'm leaning towards R50 so here it is.

I was about to sell the Pathfinder, but now the oil consumption has gone from normal/acceptable to GODDAMN! I've taken it off the market and will probably put $$$ into and keep it for a while.

I'm either going to need a new engine or a rebuild.

There is a lot of blowby, evidenced on the rear bumper above the tailpipe. It's now burning 1 qt/1000 miles, maybe more. The lifters clatter a few seconds on a cold start, much more than a normal motor. There is a very slight tapping at the bottom end as well.

I'll get a leakdown/compression test when I get home in a month to see what the cause is.

So here is the question. If I keep it for another 20k+ miles, which if I put another engine in it I will, I know I can go the Ebay route and pick up a used JDM engine with around 50k miles for $1,400 or so. But can I do a VQ35?

I don't have bottomless pockets, nor technical expertise. A trusted shop, one of the best in ATL, will be doing all of the work.

Can a VQ35 work? What mods will be needed?

  9. I believe the reasonable and prudent speed limit applies to state highways, not interstates.

That was true, but the "reasonable and prudent" limit was abolished long ago.

The night limit is 65, same as trucks. Passenger daytime is 75

  10. FYI Montana doesn't have the "reasonable and prudent" speed limit anymore. It's 75 MPH on I90.

And the Pathfinder will do 110, but it shakes like crazy above 95. I just set cruise to 79 and stay in the right lane. B)

  11. Who's is this?

I was looking at Pathfinders on Ebay (I'm just looking for an $8,000 2001... ) and I saw this one. The ridiculous price caught my attention, then the nice Duelers, then the clear corners. It's not the average R50 grocery-getter. I know it from this forum...it's the guy with the Maxima too.

What's his name, and if you're him, tell us what happened!

    Sorry if it's a repost!
