What would be the best way to get in touch with this guy? I'd never heard that about the Exedys before.
-
I was just on the Exedy website which is the OEM clutch for our Nissans. I should compare some part numbers to other models and see if they match up. Suprisingly, they had a seperate part # for 96-99, 2000, 2001, and 2002+ if I remember correctly. All the other manufactures have listed all these years as the same part number. The guide also says "performance options available" but doesn't list them. I figure if the stock clutches are Exedy and work well, a performance Exedy might be something to look into.

After doing a little bit more research, I'm a bit hesistant to get a Centerforce. I looked at quite a few import boards with guys running much more HP than I ever will, but they all complained they they either fell apart of slip; not quite what I'm looking for. Are there any other performance options?

Thanks for the responses. I just visited the dealer and another shop around here and both quoted $840 for labor. I was looking at the Centerforce since it's made for off-road vehicles and is built to put up with larger tires and the stress these things put up with. I'm planning on 33's in the future, and I'm not sure how long the OEM clutches last when under lots of abuse.
Both the dealer and shop told me to be careful when using the Centerforce since if it is installed and falls apart $100 down the road, I get to pay another $900 to install the new one. The OEM carries a 1 year/12000 warranty.
Once I figure in machining the flywheel, it looks like it'll be about $1300-1400 depending on whether I use OEM or CF parts.
I've heard the CF I and II are crap, but anyone have any experience with any CF clutches?
Thanks!
OR: Are you sure it was only 5 hours of work? The dealer said it's an 11 hour job.

I believe you can test the voltage on the O2's to see whether you're running rich or lean. I know it says the values in the manual so I can check if you need it.

After listening to the throwout bearing making more and more noise everyday I drive the car I've decided it's time to get it fixed. I'm most likely going with a Centerforce Dual-Friction setup, and want to know what else should be replaced while the shop is in there. I won't be doing the work, so I need some opinions on what to let the shop know to replace. I'm not sure whether the Centerforce kit includes a new throwout bearing and other misc. parts.
Would you reccomend using OEM parts for everything besides the clutch setup? I've considered using all OEM parts, but planning on larger tires and such leads me to want the Centerforce. I read about the older Pathfinders needing the rear seal replaced, not sure whether it's necessary on the R50. I'll have the flywheel machined when it's off unless I find an aftermarket one. I'll likely be supplying all the parts, so I'd like to have EVERYTHING I need to bring to the shop. If anyone has a list it would be awesome!
How many hours should I expect the shop to charge me for?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Dan I didn't realize you had a set. After thinking about it a little bit more seriously, I can't see any reason why they wouldn't fit my 2000. It's only listed 96-99 but I don't think they changed anything in that area into the 2000+ models. Also, these keep BOTH existing cats, correct?

I read while ago on either this or AC's board about squeaking being caused by the dust shields on the brakes. Not sure exactly what it was, but try searching for it.
-
For some reason I doubt they'll go for that much. If so, they're all mine.

I looked at getting a bender awhile back, and was really amazed at how expensive the dies are for them. That's supposed to be a great bender and look forward to seeing some new r50 armor soon.
-
For all the R50 guys looking at winchs, there should be a cheaper solution than the ARB hopefully by summer. Not something I'm working on, but heard talk of it.

Exact model I have. Haven't had any major problems, and has been reliable as hell so far. The only thing to think about is service that will be coming up fairly soon, like the timing belt around 90k. My clutch is finally starting to go out with 111k on the clock.
-
I would be up for purchasing one but I'm not sure it would be anytime soon.
Also, I'd imagine that the recovery points on the bumper are extremely strong, so I'd guess be the hitch would a class III.

Looks like I need to get my a$$ in gear and start working on these.
-
The front plate that replaces the factory "splash guard" will have to be modified. All the others should fit.

Now that the topic has been brought back up, are any of the products you've used found at a place like Home Depot? My dealer didn't have any idea what I was talking about and looked at me like an idiot. Sounds like a few people used normal silicone so I'll need to try that if I can't find anything else.
-
I'll look forward to seeing it finished. Maybe I'll change my mind on the homemade type.

I think a lot of people (especially since the R50's are still newer vehicles) want something that would be more presentable than PVC. I know they can look alright, but it still doesn't compare to something a company would produce.
-
The only people I'm aware of that have new rear bumpers are Keith (system-f) and another guy on the board that I can't think of his name. I emailed the company about a month ago (CBI Offroad) to see if they'd make another one like it. I also wanted a swing-out tire carrier which they said could be done. Unfortunatly it's not mine.

I'd be up for one. sssh

Haven't visited that thread for awhile. Thanks!

I like those switches you both have mounted. Where can you get 'em?
-
Not sure if you've looked at it, but I think Nismo made one for the X. I'll look for it.

Looks like I really need to get working on this. There are quite a few people interested, definitely way more than I had initially expected. I know quite a people have wondered if they could get their own dimensions and build it themselves which I do respect, but it would be easier and more cost effective to have one person produce and sell all of them. I'll try and make some progress this week and try to get a hold of Keith. It's been almost 3 weeks since he's responded.... :furious:

How'd he get that truck on its side right there? Funny how it still has the side mirror that should be smashed but the other is busted off.
