  1. Just a headups here... if I'm not mistaken, pezzy has the 99.5 with 3.3. typhus has the 3.5.... the underhood arrangement must be different no ?

The hood arangement is slightly different but i am confident the battery is in the exact same spot. Also if you dont wanna pay for the yellow top im pretty sure you can just go for the red top optima.

  2. I, and a couple of others that I know about, have had similar phantom clunks. Mine was finally traced to a faulty strut bearing. I can't explain the cause exactly, but for about a year i had the funny little clunk. One day i noticed one of my strut bearing was actually torn. I replaced it, and haven't heard the phantom clunk since. Hope this might help. Good luck.

    Pete

Ya strut bearing is what Im thinkin. I heard that with time the strut bearing can eventually rust out especially in areas where salt is used. But getting your vehicle rust proofed can help slow the process of the bearing rusting, it is also a good lubricant for it, but thats just what i've heard.

  3. just my 2 cents...could it be your balljoints ?? I know mine does kinda of a clunk when i turn while the terrain is not level....I'm changing them soon, but just wanted to give another tought...

    S

I considered ball joints but ruled them out when i jacked up the finder and grabbed the wheel by the top and bottom and felt for play but couldn't feel any, but i need an oil change soon and dont feel like changing it with piles of snow on the ground, so im gonna get a mechanic to see what they think.

  4. I used to have a93 before i had a my 92 and the rear struts were bad and would clunk over bumps then the rear sway bar bushings were bad so they cluncked and i just cut it off ha but yeah if u replaced the bushings i bet its the struts. Im surprised they are bad already that car isnt that old.

ya thats what i was thinking too i only got 126km on the truck, my dads 97 pathy i think he replaced the struts at like 140km but i dont know if he had a clunk too. But oh well i might just live with it till the struts need replacing, then i'll throw on some KYB's :aok:

  5. Hey everyone

Im still having a problem with a clunk in my front end, I replaced the sway bar bushings and links as one link did in fact fail, but i still get a clunk from time to time. I was thinking i just need my front strut assembly rebuilt, new insulators, bearings and such, has anyone had a problem like this? and did the strut rebuild help? The thing is my struts are original but they dont leak and they dont feel soft. any thoughts?

    thanks

  6. Can I get what ever brand of power steering fluid from the parts store or do I need something special?

hey dont mean to thread jack...but has anyone gotten a power steering flush?? is it really worth it...i worked at a chrysler dealership and i use to do em a lot, just wondering if anyones tried it on there pathy.

    thanks

  7. Yes it does....so I guess you can get out your hoola-hoops and pom-poms and do your little happy-homo-dance :jig: ....after that, you can celebrate over some Shirley Temples, watch re-runs of Flipper and maybe look into the remedial version of Hooked-on-Phonics to help you out with that grade 3 grammar thing you seem to be struggling with.....best of luck! :aok:

wow... looks like a lot of thought was put into that post, hopefully you read over that post many times before hand to make sure the grammer was ok.

  8. It was a small leak I believe.

If it's only a small leak it could just be a split hose, try looking around the evap canister and see if one of the hoses are split, also jsut throwing this out there could the gas smell be related to the gas filler tube recall on these trucks??

  9. Have the same problem, got the Autozone scan that read emissions problems, think it was 1440. I replaced the aftermarket gas cap with a a Nissan one. This is 230 miles later....The CEL light came back on after a bumpy road..Also got a gas smell side end of car.

    Please advise...

Did it say what kind of leak it was, most of the time it will say if it's a small, medium or large leak.

  10. Does anyone have a picture of this pcv valve, I can't seem to find it never had one so cunning before the one on our 95 accord is the simplest i have ever seen to get to. Do i need to remove anything to locate.

The valve is located on the passanger side of the engine and is located right on top of the valve cover, it's very difficult to see as its right near the fire wall and you most likely have to remove the upper and lower intake manifold collector.

  11. So after putting the new wheels and tires on my '03 Chilkoot they're sticking out almost 2" past the wheel well. I've looked through several forums now and can't find a fender flare anywhere that would fit an R51 Pathfinder or QX4. Anyone find them? Black or silver will work. Thanks in advance.

R50, I had the exact same problem as I have an 03 chilkoot as well. I ended up just goin with the bushwackers street style dosent give you much tire coverage but gives the truck more appeal. You can also try AC customizers I talked to the guy and he told me they have flares for the 96-99 pathfinders with 1.5" tire coverage, dont mind the years though bushwacker claims there flares are for the 96-99 pathfinders but still fit on mine. good luck

  12. That's right, there's no filter. For $150, are they doing a drain and fill, or a full flush? $150 is $110 too much for a drain and fill, but probably reasonable for a flush.

The dealership charged me $80 canadian bones for a drain and fill. So do all the 96-04 pathfinders not have a transmission filter?? cause i was gonna do the service myself next time around and was gonna drop the pan. I found a kit online that gives you a new gasket, filter and o-ring and was gonna give it a try, but i might just stick to drain and fills if there is no filter.

  13.

Engine technology means nothing to me if it is not reliable. There are many other 'high tech' motors from other manufacturers that are reliable. My trucks are used as trucks, not shopping mall parking lot rigs so they need to be tough.

The cost of fuel has nothing to do with my motivation to sell this pile. I recently purchased a 2006 Toyota TRD Tacoma DC which will undoubtedly be a better vehicle for me in every way. The Nissan is gone as soon as it sale-ready...if it can be repaired cost-effectively. Just thinking about the issues I have recently had with that truck gags me and it is doubtful I will own another Nissan product anytime soon.

    [/quote

That really is unfortunate because In my opinion nissan does make a great product. I come from a family of pathfinder owners and these trucks have been flawless, not just parking lot rigs. My dad had a 93 280K he put on it till he got rid of it and 350+k on it till the frame rotted out. My bro has a 97 250k runs mint and I have a 2003 3.5 with a 117K no problems. But I have heard numerous complaints about the 01's and there sensor issues but that is the first year that the 3.5 was put into the truck so im sure it just needed some bugs worked out like any first year vehicles. Anyways if your still lookin to get to that pcv valve im pretty sure you gotta remove both upper and lower intake manifolds and it should give you enough access to the valve cover.

  14. Just too add to thiss, Im gonna be replacing my rotors soon as well and I am wondering how some of you got the lock nut off. Do i need a special tool or can i get away with using a punch and hammer? the only thing that worries me about that is how am i gonna be able to torque it to specs when putting the bearings back in. Also i went to canadian tire and they have a special lock nut tool for the 96 4runner and tacoma, anyone know if that'll work??

    thanks

  15. Hey Thanks! You just made my day! Now i wonder if i'll be able to make their "Pocket" or "Cutout" work. The holes in those are already drilled in the flare. How do the ones you installed mount exactly? Are they supposed to mount to factory holes? Sorry for all the questions, i haven't dug into how my OEM's are mounted yet, and after running my TSL's for the first time this weekend, i realized i'm gonna need to do some work. I only need a couple more inches probably, and love the look of their pocket style, would love to make that work. Thanks for your time. And Great looking ride. Real sharp wheels, too nice for me though, i'd hate to take them off road. Why did you have to replace your oem flares?

    pete

The two front flares do screw into the factory holes but the bushwackers just come with indents in the flare where you are supposed to drill, but none of mine lined up thats when I found out they really are only for the 96-99 applications but Oh well. the two rears came with self tapping screws make holes where the indents are in the flare and I never replaced the OEMs cause I never had any to begin with. thanks for the compliments

  16. But from what i can find, they don't make them for our trucks. Up to 99 only. Is that what you used?

ya thats what i used, but like I said I had to measure the holes for the 2 front flares. The trucks were pretty much identical from 96-04 so they fit like a charm on my 03. Here I just got some pics.

  17. I'd like to know too. I've got to figure out something for my new super swampers. Throwing rocks like a mofo. Could you provide any more info? I've got an 02', and as usual, no one makes anything for it that i can find. I'm curious how your bushwackers ended up and which ones you used/tried. The only other options i see are something from a company called Pacer. Flexi fender it's called. Never seen it in person though.

I actually put a set of the bushwacker street style flare on my 03. THey really dont do much in my opinion just adds more appeal to the truck really. They do block some of the dirt from my tires but I still get mud stains on the side of my truck but oh well. And if you wanna get em and you have a 2000-2004 then DO NOT use the indents that are in the 2 front flares, I made that mistake and none of the holes lined up so I had to measure em.

  18. When you take the hub off, you can punch out the inner bearing, and grease seal in one shot. Replace the seal FOR SURE. It's only like $15 for the pair. That way you can clean out everything, and repack properly. :aok:

Ok cool, but what about that hub cap that needs to be removed to access the snap ring, should I replace or is it ok to reuse?

    thanks for ur help

  19. hey everyone, i gotta a question regarding the inner front wheel bearing. I wanna do new pads and rotors soon and also wanna repack the bearings. Now do I have to repack the inner bearing since its in the grease seal? is it hard to remove the bearing from the seal? also when I take the cap off that covers the snap ring which holds the drive flange should I replace the cap with a new one??

    thanks

  20. Hello, I was wondering what years are compatible in the fender flare section, I need to get some to cover my meats, the flying rocks are getting annoying :D, When I go to a Junk yard should I primarily look for 96-99 pathfinders?

Im also wondering, are roof racks easy to take off? My Xe has a naked roof, and was looking at getting the side runners and cross bars off another pathfinder, Do they just unscrew from the roof? Thanks

Ya I would stick with those year pathys, unless you wanna drill more holes in the flare, that happened to me i just bought a set of bushwackers for my 03 and drilled out the indents that were marked on the flare and when i went to go put it on none of the holes lined up. but anyways stick with those years as for the roof rack Im not sure, do you already have a rack on ur truck?

  21. Hey everyone, Haven't been on the forums in a while, but gotta question I was hoping someone had an answer to. I am looking to take a set of leather seats out of a 98 pathfinder LE and put them in my 03 chilkoot edition. I am confident the seats will fit but I was wondering what was involved in getting the electric seats to work and the heaters. I found some wires under the seat which I assume are for the optional electric and heated seats, do I just plug them in, take the heated seat switches and pop in some fuses, our is there more involved?

    thanks

  22. Just throwing this out there. the current tires are just under 31", but my spare is the stock 29" tire. Incase of a flat is it bad to drive with a smaller tire just for a bit till i can get it fixed??? I figured it would be but just wanna see if anyonw else has done it.

    thanks
