Every time I hit a big bump or shift gears I get a loud clunk in my drive train. I crawled underneath and noticed there was alot of play in the tranny when i twist the drive shaft back and forth, but the yolks are fine. It's got 123,000 miles on the original clutch so maybe that's causing the slop. Not sure whats going on so any advise is appreciated :shrug:

Check other things first. Exhaust, swaybar endlinks, axle control arms, all those things can make a "clunk" if they're loose or worn out. The clutch is probably not a candidate for drivetrain slop, sorry.

 

On that note, once I bought a car for $150...the owner says to me, "It has a bad rear wheel bearing, when you go around a corner it clunks and squeals REAL bad, it's almost undriveable." I got under there, looked and it was the muffler clunking side to side and rubbing on the tire. One coat hanger and the problem was fixed...and I had a car to drive for $150.

 

Also, it's "yoke". ;)

check yer rear tranny mounts too.. sometimes they sag with age.. a few members have had this issue and did easy quick fixes. ;)

 

*also, check your motor mounts*...... yes.. i've had a tranny jump around cuz i had a broken motor mount (that was on my jeep)
