URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Bill to Severely Limit 4x4 Truck Access Passes in Minnesota House; Moves to Senate

Legislation (H.F. 3116) that would limit modified 4x4 trucks to minimally maintained roads and to the area specifically designated for their use is scheduled to be voted on by the full Minnesota Senate.  The bill was passed in the Minnesota House on Wednesday, May 17 with these damaging amendments and without an opportunity for public testimony and consideration.

We Urge You to Contact ALL Members of the Minnesota State Senate (List Attached) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to

H.F. 3116

·        H.F. 3116 would severely restrict 4x4 truck access to Minnesota hobbyists by prohibiting use of "trails," including those designated south of Highway 2 and those north of Highway 2 that are currently open to off-road use.

·        H.F. 3116 defines 4x4 trucks as 4-wheeled motor vehicles manufactured to operate on public roads and subsequently modified with special tires, suspension or other equipment.

·        H.F. 3116 unfairly discriminates against aftermarket modifications that provide additional functionality and comfort, while allowing this equipment if original from the factory.

Please contact members of the Minnesota State Senate by e-mail to request their opposition to this bill.  Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org.  Thank you for your immediate assistance.

Thank goodness! I just went up to the Iron Range OHV park and even that is very limited. The majority of the trails require somewhat serious mods b/c they are rock crawls. For those of us who are much more infrequent users who may not have as much money in our rigs this is pretty limiting.

MN not only needs to keep existing trails open, but we need more!
