interior wiring fun

hey all

have a 2k pathfinder

i don't have the lighted vanity mirrors, and found it to be a pain in the ass (the girl complaining about not being able to do makeup and crap) so i picked up a set of the lighted ones from a 2k off of ebay

also nice because they have the homelink, which is a huge bonus for me

but i don't have the stock wiring harness in the headliner because i am sunroof free.

the question is, can i snag the whole stock harness with all the attachments from a truck that has them? anyone that has done any extensive modding know if i can just swap the whole interior room lamp harness over? looks like i can from wiring diagrams, but i'd like advice from the combined knowledge here before doing it.

Why not run your own wires? Just splice into the 12v from your dome or map light. AFAIK you just need power and ground, right? I wouldn't worry too much about having a connector up there since you're not planning on taking them in and out all the time.

I'm the kinda guy who likes neat and tidy @!*%

but that's a hell of an idea. solder it all together and it should be fine.

now to find out what wire is ground and which is power...i have the manual downloaded for my suv but can't find this tidbit

Well it's not neat and tidy, but you could just short each one to the body and see which one pops the fuse under your dash, mark it and replace the fuse. No biggie. You should probably get a tester, though. They're pretty cheap and really come in handy.

I've got a set of map lights I pulled from a yard that I plan to install in my '87 (someday) by tapping in to the 12v from the dome light. I'm not familiar with how the lighted vanity mirrors work, but as long as the light you're installing has its own switch it shouldn't be a problem.

Let us know how you made out.

Good luck.

I went out and did a check for ya. On my driver's side visor, my vanity mirror has a red/orange wire and a white wire coming out of the post. Red/orange = 12V; white = ground. If your wires aren't color coded, the wire closest to a notch (eg: triangle piece that locks the connector) is the 12V.

Also, if you park outside, I suggest using the switched-ignition 12V wire for the driver's side with the homelinkn so people can't open your garage when the pathy's parked outside. The stock pathy is wired to an always hot 12V and I switched to the ignition 12V for that reason.
