I just wanted to thank those of you who helped me with my repair. You can read about it here:

Thanks to the help I received here I was able to get the necessary parts at a great price and was also given the confidence that I could replace them myself. (Hey, I'm clueless when it comes to cars) Well, the parts arrived yesterday and I through 'em in last night. My Pathfinder ran like a champ on my commute to work this morning. :aok:

 

Also a special shout out to Dave Burnette, who is apparently a legend on the Maxima boards. Dave was extremely helpful and got me the parts at an excellent price!

...now I just need to stay away from this site cause man, I'm itchin' for a lift after seeing your rigs. LOL

What did it cost you and how much did the stealership want ? Did you replace all 6 or did you isolate the malfunctioning ones ? If so, how did you do it ? I remembering following the thread, but I missed the end. I believe you can just pull plug wires when it's running... when you get to the wires that don't effect the running of the motor, thats the coil pack thats bad... Of course, you can get a nice shock if you aren't careful, but it's just annoying, not damaging. :D

I purchased all 6 for about $400 with shipping. Dealer wanted $540.00 for parts and another $265.00 for labor.

 

Did you replace all 6 or did you isolate the malfunctioning ones ? If so, how did you do it

 

Actually I only replaced 4 so far. There are two different types and I, based on my vin, was sent 3 of each when it turns out I actually needed 5 of one type and 1 of the other. I dealt with Dave Burnette who, when I called to tell him about the mix up, handled not only shipping out the correct parts but also covered the return shipping of the incorrect parts at no additional cost to me. Dave couldn't have been any nicer. (hey, I live in Philly - I'm used to getting attitude) Meanwhile the car is running great but I'll throw the other two in when I get 'em "just because". ;)

 

How did I do it? Very slowly. :laugh: It wasn't hard at all, just kinda time consuming since you have to move stuff just to get at some of the coils. No biggie but it would've been a lot easier if my ratchet extension was a little longer. And since I planned on replacing all six I replaced all the ones I could and didn't isolate any. I was nervous enough being a newb, no need to leave the battery connected and zap myself. I'll tell ya what the most nerve racking part was when it came to start her up. "Oh well, here goes..." Vroom! "Sweet" <whew> :laugh:

I bet it was suprising to see what the stealer wanted to charge you $265 to do, uh ? I HATE paying people to work on my vehicles, but sometimes it is necessary... I saved about $800+ replacing my own clutch. ;)
