Trailer hitch options

I am fabricating one now. I'll shoot for that look, Bear Claw.

I am starting out with a Hitch from a Ford Ranger (craigslist-15$), and 23$ worth of scrap metal, that I bought today. Problem is, my 90AMP MIG probably won't do so well on the 1/4" plate scraps.

90 amp MIG will not do it in one pass, that is true.

You have three options:

1) My favorite! Tack it all together, clean it up, and take to a professional certified welder to lay down the final beads! If it's all fitted and tacked well, they can whip it out in very little time and it won't cost you much at all.

2) Use flux core instead of MIG. I'm assuming your portable unit allows that, right? The flux core gives much better penetration than MIG, albeit it takes more effort to clean up the bead. Also, bevel the joints well and make several passes.

3) Bring it up to Chico and make the welds on my big-A buzz box...

I am seriously considering option 1. On the other hand, my neighbor has a big stick welder, but he can't use it because he doesnt have the correct 220 plug, I might have to make a trip to home depot and hook him up in trade.

A trip to Chico sounds like fun though, thanks for the offer :)
