I'm Lacking an owners manual and the local Nissan dealerships sucks! ... The service dept. does anyways.

Could someone please tell me the oil weights for the tranny Manual 5 speed and the diffs ?

Thankyou in advance! :)

I use Amsoil 75W-90 in my '87 trans. I don't know the about the diffs offhand.

I would've looked up the thread that discusses all of the following, but the new search feature frustrates me. Anyway, here's the quick version:

Be sure to fill your trans with 5.1 liters of gear oil. The data in most manuals is wrong about the quantity. GL-5 has additives in it that will eat up the synchros in your trans so be sure to use GL-4 and ONLY GL-4. GL-5 has a distinct sulpher smell (stinky = no good). Your fill hole was made too low to get the correct amount fo fluid in there, so you can either rig up a extended tube for your fill hole, park on an incline, or do what I did; remove the shifter and pour it in the hole.

Hope this helps.

Great! Thankyou! I was kinda suspicious about that fill plug in the side of the tranny - it is really low. I'll put'er up on my ramps.

I'm a big amsoil fan as well.... I throw in a little Lucas, it seems to really work well and keep the seals intact.

Thanks for the info guys! :)

Next time I'll check the search first... forget sometime's though.
