Dead Speedo In My 97 Pathfinder...

Just got a 97 Pathfinder SE with low mileage, and driving down the highway the other day the speedometer crapped out on me. All of the other guages are fine. Called Nissan and they said to check the wiring behind the transfer case, did that, and everything seemed ok from what i COULD see. Talked to my mechanic and he said it could be the speed sensor. Called Nissan back and they quoted me around 160 bucks for the sensor.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there are any other suggestions before i go and shell out the money. Also are there any cheap places to get parts for this car? Im new to it so any and all info will help! :)

Also, anyone know a good website to get things like a brushguard (or deerkiller as i like to say) for the front and for the taillights? Have seen them on a few pathys and am considering them.

The other question is about intakes. Im told it will help with gas mileage and add a little power, any suggestions on what kind and how much they would go for?

THANKS AGAIN!

  • 4 weeks later...

Just posted about this topic earlier - speed sensor was about $230 for the local

garage to order and install, and I never did find the part online. It is a Do It

Yourself job, one bolt and wire plug to remove and bingo, swap the new one in,

but a garage will only be $30 labor or so to get it done if you're lazy like me.

As for brush guards, I also researched them, found a few in the low $300's, but

also remember reading where they were not a good thing to hit a deer with, for

they would be destroyed along with both headlights, turning lamps, grille, etc...

but that could just be rumor.

Mmmmmmm.. ok. First off.. blackpanther.com for the "deer killer" and other goodies..there are a couple more sights but I am too lazy to find them... um... intake...are we talking after markety air intake box or intake plentum (the silver thing on top of your motor).... you can get either the exterior "round" air intake system like some of the guys are running (too risky for me in Cali with smog) or, I run a K & N filter in the stock box. Intake plentum.. just pop it off and clean it..but remember to change the gasket when you do. Napa auto parts is the only place I found one. As for your speedo.. hell.. mine hasn't worked since I got my '92 Pathy in '03.... I just wing it by speed to gear/rpm ratios.. BTW everyone.. I now know when I am doing 30, 35, 40 & 65! (thank god for a small town with brand new speed thingys installed..hehe) anyhoo... does any of that help?
