AlexDuke
Good afternoon, I have a 1987 Nissan Pathfinder with 275k miles. It has been a great truck for all the years I have had it, when I got it from my uncle who bought it brand new. I let it sent out in the field for about a year and a half when I was moving and didn't use it. However, I have had some issues since I brought it home, it got to where when it was warm, it didn't want to go over 2k RPMs, you had to granny clutch it to keep it from dying. Took it to a mechanic who said he did all kinds of work on it, and it was there for 10 months. But he never really did anything, except maybe changing a fuel filter, air filter, etc... And he completely removed all of what he called “emissions” stuff, it was all the stuff, that if I remember correctly was on the driver’s side fender right above the headlamp. Each time he told me it was fixed I would pick it up, and typically go eat dinner ~45-hour and leave the restaurant and go home. Upon leaving the restaurant is when it would start running extremely rough and dying. Plus my gas light is now on. What he has told me he had done (not that it matters, because I don’t think any of it was done): Injectors (twice), MAS, master cylinder, fuel pump, fuel tank, air filter, fuel filters (twice), new battery (I bought and see it) among a few other things. I ordered new injectors and have the old ones so I know he put them in. He thought he had fixed it, and so the other day we went and drove it around and ran great – figured the injectors what was the issue. But, I wanted have a situation much like in times past, so I drove it around for 20-30 more minutes, went home and parked it. Waited 45-hour and it started doing the same exact thing as it had. I used to install car audio, so I know a little bit about electricity, and for some reason I am curious if some of it is electrical related. However, with it being hot I am curious if there is something deeper to it. If anyone has any idea, please let me know.
Kingman
Sounds like a CHTS issue... temp sensor for the ECU so it can adjust fuel and timing trims.
AlexDuke
Sorry for the delayed response and thank you for the quick reply. I have done some searching to find out more about this "CHTS Issue" and ECU temp sensor with no luck. Is there any information or anywhere you would recommend that I look in order to find information on the fix, cost of parts for repair and maybe instructions? I miss being able to drive this thing, and want to get it fixed before hunting season for sure. I should have some nights coming open in the next couple weeks to do the work. Is this a common issue? Any other ideas of what could possible be an issue if this isn't it? Thank you so much!

MY1PATH
Just go to the auto store and get a Temp sensor for your turck. It will be the one with a square 2 pin plug it shouldn't cost much.It will be located on the Drivers CYL head up front just behind the timing cover. You will have to pull the AC idler to get to it. Use scribe to CAREFULLY remove the wire clip before trying to unplug it and then remove it with a 19mm deep socket and swivel joint.
MY1PATH
Fresh tank of gas too!
Kingman
I'd actually suggest an OEM Nissan sensor. Personally I've had very bad luck with aftermarket ones not reading correctly and causing more issues.
AlexDuke
Awesome! Thank y'all so much! I hope to get to it soon, my grandfather passed away this morning so it will be another week or so. But it sat for about a year, so I thought about draining the tank and making sure it isn't rusty inside. The fuel light was never on until this last time I got it back, so I want to drain it completely and putting fresh 100% fuel in. Anything else y'all recommend in changing out the part? I will see if I can order it from Nissan this evening.

Kingman
Damn, sorry to hear. Replace the sub harness as well for sure. It corroded over time and can cause changes in resistance seen by the ECU.
AlexDuke
I see a part number of 2263001P01 for the temp sensor from Nissan. I am unable to locate anything that shows a sub harness. Any idea if Nissan references a different name?
