Dma251
I have read about the need for a crank adapter when using the R50 VG33. Is it necessary with all engines (xterra and Frontier) into my WD21, or is it only the motors from R50's? I have read the threads on here about the swap, and facing a gushing rear-main seal leak, I figure since R50's are costing $500-$750 with bad transmissions, it might be the time to do it. 5523Pathfinder
Not necessarily, Ive seen it done and they guy used all the accessories from the 3.3 motor. Also, some had the crank pulley from the 3.0 machined to fit onto the 3.3 crank. Im sure someone else will ring in at some point with a little more information. djeffrey
I used the crank adapter. All the VG33s need the adapter if you want to use your current accessories. If you want to go through the effort of re adapting all the new accessories than you keep the vg33 setup. I used the adapter and it made my swap a lot easier. Like the guy above me said, if you pull the crank and get it machined it can fit the old pulley.
