Need Mechanic Advice???

HI!

I had and idea with seeing all the different air flow systems out there in the after market. I live in Orlando and we have a local store that buy's old computer and electric company items, a surplus store with everything you could imagine. I found 12volt high output fans the kind that go in computer cabinets or on big electrical boxes to get the hot air out. I was thinking of installing one in my intake to force air into the throttle body unit.

1. Would this actually work?

2. Would it be to much air in and how would that effect my engine?

3. Would I run to lean and burn up my valves?

4. Do you think it would hurt to try and how would I determine if it increases my feul economy?

These high output fans really crank out the air flow the are about 5 in by 5 in, and it would be easy to wire up, as a matter of fact the place I'm talking about has switches of every type I already added two switches to my center console. They where a 1/16 larger than the stock ones, but with my dremel tool I made them fit like new factory ones. Plus they only cost two-fifty each and the dealer wanted alot more. for those interested with one I put a switch on my antenna, since I listen to CD 99% of the time and am on my second mast, I figured it would save wear and tear on the antenna and Motor.

I also bought one of those little diodes on ebay that was suppose to increase power and fuel mileage, but I have been to chicken to try it I don't want to hurt my engine.

If any one out there has used on of these could you give me some feedback on weather it worked or not.

Also could some one please tell me where ther is a link on how to program and keyless remote? I'd would appreciate your help.

If any one out there needs surplus parts be sure to check out SkyCraft on Fairbanks Ave. in Winter Park Florida. I'm not kidding when I say you could probably find the parts there to build a robot or more they have it all, especially wire, switches, wire connectors, caster, all shape and size computer fans, electrical boxes Home and industrial type. It's one of those places where you can look around for hours and not see all of it.

ok. let's start with the intake:

1) those little fans couldn't possibly throw enough air to make any sort of improvement. at best you would just be adding a restriction and slowing down the air. if it were really that easy then everyone would be doing it and nobody would spend the money on a turbo/supercharger. BAD IDEA

 

2) the diode - snakeoil. if it really were that simple to increase HP/economy then it would have been done that way during production. the main thing to remember is that if you increase one, to take away from the other. period. no way around it. and when you mess with the PCMs sensors, the engine suffers. period, no way around it. BAD IDEA

Yeah...the fan would have to run at about 50,000 RPM's and pull about 100 amps to boost you by more than 1 PSI...

 

The resistor(not a diode) simply makes the engine run rich. It fakes the ECU into thinking you're getting 40 degree air fulltime, so it richens the fuel/air mixture to compensate, which gives you about 1/2 more HP and worse gas mileage.

Thanks every one I appreciate the input your right about the input of air.

I look at the design of the air filter box and I don't see how it takes in enough air? It seems all the openings are enclosed with the front fender, and the radiator. I think there must be a way to allow more airflow with the stock system with out subjecting the unit to water damage,or excessive dirt.

Any Ideas would be help full. I looked for a snorkel but no luck, plus it's to ugly and my Pathy stays on road more than off.

The front fender isn't airtight, man. Air flows well enough through it for a stock vehicle.
