Leak at fuel rail and then stops?

I noticed gas smell while driving down the road and pulled over, right underneath the plenum where the 3 injectors are in the middle I noticed satuaration on the 2 in. gas hose, but the hose itself wasn't leaking. I followed it to the first (closest) fuel injector under the plenum and discovered it was leaking at the rain and I think it looked like the rail itself was getting burned and I could see very faint smoke coming out.

 

I turned the car off and let it cool down and some sort of crust developed right in the small centimeter crevice between the fuel rail and the plenum at the first fuel injector and the smoke stopped. Turned car back on and the leak stopped and the saturation is gone.

 

Anyone else have this happen?

It's pretty common for the rubber hoses that connect the two sides of the fuel rail to deteriorate and become loose over the ends where it seals to the rail. Tighten the hose clamps with a screw driver will probably help but it's likely getting time to replace those hoses and may as well do the injector seal o rings when you are in there. Gas fire in an engine bay is no joke.

^^++ Common problem. I doubt the rail itself is leaking, I am betting on the junction hose and it may be following the rail and showing up where you saw it. Replace the hose and see if it cures the problem. It is a little tricky getting the hose on there, push it all the way on one side then feed it back on the other side. Taking the dizzy cap off helps too, along with keeping the hose in your pocket for a while to warm it up to be more flexible. If you are in a hurry use a hair dryer, heat gun, what have you. Make sure you use high pressure hose clamps and not the typical screw type, they wont hold the pressure for long...

That is the cheapest, easiest fix. If that doesn't work keep looking but be sure to fix it. Like Nefarious said fuel fires are not fun.....
