Bernie
I'm about to change the oil in my 93 SE's manual transmission with GL-4 synthetic but I couldn't find out anywhere, how much it will take? The owners manual is blank and my Chilton's doesn't say how much. I'll probably go with Redline. Which one do you recommend? I also want to change the transfer case oil with Dexron III, if that's correct, but again, how much will it take? Thanks in advance for any help. jj big shoe
I'm pretty sure the publications will say 3.6 litres, but there was a bulletin from Nissan that said the fluid level should be increased to 5.1 litres. The trans case fill hole is manufactured too low to put the added 1.5 litres in, so you either have to remove the shifter and fill it through the shifter hole, park on an incline to fill it, or make an adapter tube that will allow you to fill it to the correct level. (I recommend the shifter hole route.) 3.6 litres is not enough to lubricate the main input bearing or something which leads to premature trans failure. Here's the thread on the matter: Trans fluid thread Be sure to check out the links to the Nissan TSB's Hope this helps.
