andreus009
So where do I get low profile ones? I saw several posts talking about them, but none seem to say where they are available from. I found these for the upper: https://www.4x4parts.com/nissan/low-profile-bump-stops-p-345.html https://www.4x4parts.com/nissan/ultra-low-profile-bump-stops-p-346.html and it looks like these are now available for the lowers: https://www.4x4parts.com/nissan/lower-aarm-bump-stops-p-6397.html Anyone know of anything else? ahardb0dy
You can get the same Energy Suspension bump stops from Summit Racing for less, This is the product in the first link you posted from Summit Racing for $8.95 compared to $12.50: http://www.summitrac...ts/ENS-9-9102R/ This is the product in the second link you posted from Summit Racing for $12.99 4x4parts is actually cheaper ! http://www.summitrac...ts/ENS-9-9132R/ This is the product in the third link you posted from Summit Racing for $8.95 compared to $22.50: http://www.summitrac...ts/ENS-9-9101R/ I would stay with the first one for the fronts, I think the ultra low profile one is too thin. andreus009
yeah...that was my thinking too about the upper ones. I think my stock uppers are okay for now, but the lowers have really taken a beating. These look better than the stock ones. Thanks Edited October 8, 2012 by andreus009
ahardb0dy
are you running a suspension lift too? Do you have the torsion bars cranked so much that you need a low profile bump stop in front? Any lift in the rear? I don't know if I would use the one's you linked to for the rear, you may be better off with these: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ENS-9-9104R/ or if you want a shorter one these: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ENS-9-9109R/
andreus009
All the bump stops I listed are for the front. The low profile are the upper ones. The taller ones go on the bottom or lower arm. I don't have any issues with the rear...that I know of.
ahardb0dy
My mistake I thought you wrote rear where you said lower, disregard,

Nice186
Hi I'm just learning as of now what bumps stops are. What size would be the best for the front and what would be the best for the rear... From watching a few videos I see that bump stops are on the shocks what are the upper and lower your talking about? And the rears are rectangle shapes? Maybe the videos I saw we're all for cars haha, anyone care to inform me a little on bump stops for our trucks? Idk if this would help but I'm in stock height with 31's and I never touched the bump stops. So I think it's time to change them
Nice186
Also I'm running the stock shocks, what would you guys recommend on aftermarket shocks for our trucks? Thanks for the help guys
ahardb0dy
the bump stops are not on the shocks. Here are where the 2 bump stops are pics below: The stock ones you have are probably fine, you can check them to make sure they are still there. The bump stops kind of limit how far the upper and lower control arms can travel, some people who have a lot of lift cranked into their front ends may replace the upper bump stop so they still have some suspension travel without the upper arm sitting on the upper bump stop. Basically when you raise the front of the truck by adjusting (cranking) the torsion bars it moves the upper control arm down and closer to the upper bump stop. When the UCA is sitting on the bump stop and your tire falls into a hole or similar there is no where for the UCA to move down ( as it is already up against the rubber bump stop) so there is no more travel and you will feel that because the UCA is hitting the bump stop. At normal ride height with stock tires (31's) you should have about 1/2" to 3/4" of space between the bottom of the UCA and the bump stop. I would not replace the bump stops for low profile ones (thinner) unless you have the front end cranked up a lot, which is not good to do anyway. The shocks I would recommend replacing, the truck is a 94 so it is 18 years old and the stock shocks aren't very good to begin with. Most manufacturers use the cheapest shocks they can get and from past experience replacing the shocks to a good aftermarket shock will make a big difference, same applies to the steering stabilizer if you have the stock one. Their are many aftermarket shocks that are good it depends on what you want, Rancho 5000's are the basic upgrade, they make 9000's that are more money and are adjustable. We had Trailmaster shocks on my wife's 88 toyota don't recall which model but they worked good too. rear: Edited October 14, 2012 by ahardb0dy
ahardb0dy
Here are the Rancho shocks for our trucks: http://www.gorancho.com/shock_lookup.php?cat=shock&year=1994&make=NISSAN&model=Pathfinder+&drive=4WD&height=Stock+-+2.50-in.&submodel=w%2F+Rancho+System&x=43&y=14 the 5000's use rubber bushings, the 9000's use polyurethane bushings Rockauto has the rancho shocks buy 3 get one free the 5000's are $45 each
Nice186
thanks for the info really helped me out. yes i still have the stock steering stabilizer, what brand would be good to replace these as well? i will get the rancho as i heard only good things from them and i will check my bump stops in the morning to see if they are destoryed or good haha thanks man! also i dont know if this will change what you said but my truck came stock with 235/75/15 tires so the 31x10.5s are not stock. at least not on my truck that is and i had to trim my fenders a bit to get them to clear when i took sharp turns Edited October 15, 2012 by Nice186
ahardb0dy
You should re-adjust the height for the 31's. The truck from the factory on the stock offset wheels will clear 31's with not hitting anything. The steering stops are set different on trucks that came with factory 31's too. If you have the stock steering stabilizer, Rockauto.com has a Moog part for $31.79 or a Rancho part for $47.79 Truck Shop in Sayville should have the Rancho steering stabilizer and shocks in stock, call them first 631-589-6500
andreus009
Back to Bump Stops. The ones you posted above for the rear are a single center bolt attachment based upon the picture. The Pathfinder rear bump stops are two bolt attachment. See your pic above. So I need ones like these but I gotta figure out the height. BTW, how did you cross-reference to Summit? https://www.4x4parts.com/nissan/polyurethane-suspension-products-miscellaneous-suspension-products-c-435_377_127.html
ahardb0dy
I went to the Energy Suspension site, downloaded the catalog than looked up the part number on the Summit Racing site. I do not see any like the ones in your link on the Energy Suspension site, Went thru all the bump stops on Summit's site found 2 manufacturers that are similar to the one's from 4x4 parts, these look like the ones from 4x4 parts, made by Prothane: http://www.summitracing.com/search/Part-Type/Bump-Stops/Brand/Prothane-Motion-Control/?Ns=Price|Asc the other company is Daystar: http://www.summitracing.com/search/Part-Type/Bump-Stops/Brand/Daystar/?Ns=Price|Asc
andreus009
Thanks. I'll look at these in more detail tonight.
andreus009
Decided to go with these Prothane 19-1308 Red 3. Measured 9" from the frame to the bump stop pad on the axle and measured 7" from tire to the 12 o'clock position of the wheel well fender flare. So a 3" bump stop should keep me from rubbing...if it doesn't compress too much. If it does I'll just put spacer block behind it. Thanks again.
