Y-pipe for headers?

My '95 pathy still has the OE rustastic exhaust with the ever popular exhaust tick. I just picked this rig up last month and slowly replacing the old, broken and wore out parts. I'm wanting to put on a set of headers and a full 2 1/2" exhaust, but the piece i'm not happy with is the Y-pipe. I'd hate to put on free flowing headers, choke it down to a OE replaced Y-pipe then free flow again to a 2 1/2" from there back.

 

What are people using that have a free flowing exhaust to avoid the up-down-up steps in the exhaust?
