Trogdor636
So one of the PO's of my truck did a number to my O2 sensor, and between time/rust/being completely rounded off, its been a complete headache to even try to remove. So I found a dirt dirt cheap deal on a already fabbed mid pipe, but my question is the bolts that hold the mid pipe to the y-pipe and cat. Are they a bolt and nut combo, or do the y pipe and cat have thread that a bolt just goes into? The bolts on both ends of mine have pretty much completely disintegrated so I cant tell at this point. Trogdor636
That's what I figured, I just couldn't find a nut on the courtesyparts.com diagram. That makes life much easier.
Mr.510
On my '88 the stock Y pipe and cat both had threaded holes with bolts screwed in. I know all the stock cats have threaded holes, but I don't know if all the Y pipes were that way?
Trogdor636
Eh, well after looking at the parts diagram more, I'm starting to lean towards that. It doesnt show any nuts as part of the diagram, only bolts. Maybe someone with a stock exhaust will chime in.
nunya
I had threaded holes/bolts in mine, but I have a torch so anywhere there's actually fastners now are nut/bolt

Tungsten
That's great. I always saw them with bolt and nut but around here the stock exhaust rusts out so fast everyone has already replaced theirs. Now it makes me wish I tapped the flanges instead of using a nut. That sounds like a better idea in theory. I don't know how well that works in practice. Mr.510
Now it makes me wish I tapped the flanges instead of using a nut. That sounds like a better idea in theory. I don't know how well that works in practice. I prefer through-bolted with nuts so that's what I've done with the exhaust parts I'm producing. Even where the roads are not salted in Winter the bolts often break off in the cat. Probably due to the massive heat cycling involved.
