Guest BUSANOSTRA
I have a 2001 Pathfinder with the 3500 engine. Currently has 60,000 miles. Recently developed an oil leak coming near below the oil filter. If I am not mistaken that part where its leaking is an oil cooler (not too sure). I never seen an oil cooler like that. Sure, there are 2 hoses coming from anti-freeze the reason I guess its an oil cooler. Anyway, that darn thing is the source of oil leak (not anti-freeze). I can see the unit is one piece and only one gasket to the block. The gasket and the bolt is tight. Any guess why this unit is leaking? Is there any other internal parts that I don't know in this cooler that is the source of oil leak? I also look at any recalls but there seems to be no bulletin associated. Please give me some thought. Thanks people
herm
the cam seals leak on most of the 3.3 motors around 75k+, not sure if same is true on 3.5 motors.
Guest BUSANOSTRA
Thanks Herm...but my problem is the one I metioned in my post. I am very sure the the leak is in that unit that I mentioned. All I am asking is if there is anything in that cooler unit can be the source of bad o ring, gasket or what. I never seen a cooler like the one in the year 2001. 02silverpathy
sorry BUSANOSTRA, your thread has pointed me to somthing. my 98 is leaking oil at a slow rate, it appears (from underneath the truck) to be coming from the valvecover, however, upon inspection (from the top of the engine) there is no leak??!! Is this the cam seal faking me out? Is this a D-I-Y repair or head to a garage? What should be expected of a bill? lastly, any aftermarket seals?? yes yes yes too many questions :X , but I LOVE my pathy and hate seeing her life blood seeping out!! -study-
02silverpathy
incidentally try to check the TSB for your 3.5, this may bring other issues to light that could be the "cause" of the "effect" that you are seeing....oil, afterall is notorious for running on object and giving you a false pretention.....ask me, i owned a chevy corsica!!! Guest BUSANOSTRA
I found the part by the way..... I went to the dealer and they printed the drawing of the oil cooler. The oil cooler is round and they have an o'ring exactly the same size in oil filter. That o'ring is bad and leaking...cost $17.00 Oh well, thanks a lot
