Help! $470 for Monroe struts installed?

Hey y'all,

 

Need to know if this is a bad deal or not... I'm in Los Angeles, so I figure things'll be a bit more than the rest of the country...

 

But is $470 for Monroe struts installed a decent deal? Need to know asap.

That sounds God-awful high for simply replacing struts. They're not THAT hard to do. I would hope that price includes the price of new struts as well, right?

Yes, that includes the struts and installation. Quoted at something like $112 each for parts ($230-ish total for parts). 4-5 hrs labor. And tax is included, too.

 

Still god-awful high?

Well, that's not all that high for struts, Rancho struts list for about $99 each and KYB's go for $89. Have you asked any other shops for a quote?

No... that's why I was checking in here. For reasons too long to explain, I need to tell this guy by EOD today if he's gonna do it. It's one of those places that come to your office building 1x-week and take care of your repairs while you work. Convenient, but I want to make sure I'm not paying TOO much more. People in the office recommed them. And their price on brake pads and a long-overdue oil/filter (done last week) was competitive. Just wanted to be sure this strut job cost was competitive, too...

Just renegotiated the price! $380 out the door. I got him to knock off a little time, and it seems he found some cheaper Monroe struts when he decided to look outside of Pasadena. Duh... It's a town full of 8th-generation rich white people! Note to mechanics: Don't shop for parts in a town internationally known for a stupidly expensive parade full of millions of flowers most of us struggle to puchase 2 dozen of.

 

Anyway, this seems like a pretty reasonable price, so I'm going to go with it.
