Scaramoche
Ive noticed since i rebuilt the motor that when i hit the gas peddle, it feels a little slugish. THe engine has power, yet sometimes it feels like it's not getting enough gas. Ive also noticed sometimes when i mash the peddle sometimes it hesitates. any ideas? Tungsten
did you get the timing correct?
Kingman
Did you ever find a fix for this problem? I'm having about the same issue. Sometimes the gas pedal is touchy, the truck accelerates quickly, and other times it's sluggish and requires more skinny pedal to get to the same speed. silverton
it's probably the TBI. or... it's a less than 150hp engine pulling around a 4000 pound box.

I shift gears and give it some pedal and it starts accelerating, then it feels like the A/C compressor kicks on (even when the A/C is not on) and it stops accelerating and I have to give it more pedal to accelerate at the same rate. I have replaced everything as far as a tuneup goes even the O2 sensor. My snap on scanner says everything in the computer is ok. It doesn't always do it either. It drove me nuts at first now I just give it more gas. James

Acting up it struggles to hit 85 and hold highway speeds. Pretty significant difference.
Tungsten
Your a/c compressor is turning itself ON for no reason? Maybe the acceleration issue has something to do with the TPS sensor?

I said it feels like the compressor is turning on, meaning I feel a small lose of power just like the when compressor turns on. James

Scaramoche
ok, seems like if fixed it over time.....I remember an old profesor of mine telling me how if in a design you are 1% off on many things it will all add up. Well this seems to be what my issue was. my timing was about 5' off, little leaks in my vaccum lines. some issues with emmisions equipment. Now i idle fine, i have get up and go when i mash the peddle, and no wandering idle. so my suggestion is start with timing, then hit emmisions system.
