chip key in car ,can a spare remote work

Has any one ever locked there chip type key in there pathfinder in there pocket book or ignition on or off condition? and then used your extra spare remote the one you keep at home to open the door? Will it work or will the chip key inside the car stop your spare remote from opening the door? just want o be prepaired for the unexspected ,to me its a bunch of crap to make the insurance companys rich [click click ,churp churp,flash flash ] wooopeeedo a 300.00 bill to get towed to the dealer for a lock out$$$$

It should work fine, the chip is only for starting the engine. If you get a remote start installed you most likely will have to give a chip key up for installation...guess where it goes?

 

Inside the car under the dash with the alarm, so that the alarm can "verify" with the OEM anti-theft that the car can be started.
