33 spline from X swapped to WD21

I am going to swap some 4.9's for my 4.3's. I'm not going to pay $450 for the rear ring and pinion. All of the salvage yards that have the axle with the 4.9 won't sell just the third. So, if I buy a 33 spline axle with disc brakes from an X is it a clean swap for the 31 spline axle with drums? I figure if I have to buy the whole axle I might as well use the whole thing?

'00-'04 Xterra's didn't have discs, just drums.

yea and correct me if I'm wrong, but Xterra's have leaf springs instead of a 4 link with coils in the rear like our WD21's do...so its not really a "direct" swap, but its doable.

No worries. I've been tinkering with a similar idea for my R50 once 33's are installed. Front and rear 4.9's with air lockers would be pretty rad.

That is right, I totally forgot. I guess it is back to trying to find a used parts place that will ship me just the third. I called about 30 shops from car-part.com none of them would ship just the third even if I bought the whole axle. The best quote that I got was $550. It would be better just to buy the r&p from AC
