Strut and Strut parts

Hello all I am new to this forum but have used it already.. So a GIANT thank you for the info on how to replace the CV axles on my 1997 pathfinder XE.

 

I do however have a question and yes I used the search feature. I need to replace the struts on my pathfinder they are worn out with 158K miles on them.. However I have been reading about the strut mounts that sometimes you have to buy. My question is this how do i know I will need to replace them? Or is it highly recommend that this is done with the high mileage of my pathy? Also is this something that I would be able to do in my garage? I have never messed with struts before but i have replaced coil overs....

 

If this helps I have been weighing the option of buying a small lift springs probably OME would this allow me to make a bolt in assembly ahead of time that could make the swap easier?

If you plan on buying the OME struts and coils, i would go ahead and get those while buying new upper mounts (not sure if the OME comes with new ones) and assemble it first. Easiest way to go. Well, in your situation sounds like the best way. And if you have some spring compressors, you can do this in your garage.

I do have spring compressors being the scary claw kind not the wall mount that the garages use.
