I'm wondering if my timing belt is past due for replacement. My Haynes manual says do it at 100,000 miles or 5 years. My '96 Pathy only has 82,000 miles, but is now 8 yrs. old, with the original belt. Should I be concerned about it's age, or leave it for 2 more years till it has 100k, then change it. Also, is the job much more difficult than the description of doing it on the '88 Pathy that someone posted on this forum earlier? Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

IT certainly wouldn't hurt to do it. Chances are that around 100k, some other things may be going also... thermostat, cam seals, water pump, etc. If you're not a fan of pulling the front of your engine apart, I'd suggest doing them all at once, regardless of leakage etc. I needed a new water pump at around 95k so I did the belts too. The timing belt looked fine but I figured... while I'm in there...
