Rear Axle Identification

How do you determine the type (Model Numbers) of a 97 rear axle.....And also, how do you know (without dissassembly) how many splines on your axle shafts?

I am trying to find a locker for the rear of my 97 Pathy.

Our rear axle is the H233B. I'm sure there is a way of seeing this on the vehicle, but I just learned it by listening to others. I'm 99% sure that we have 33 splines, but hopefully someone else can chime in and confirm this. AFAIK, the only locker available is the ARB air locker, and that is $$$. And if you have factory limited slip, then you would have to find a new carrier w/o LSD for the locker to fit in there.

For the 97 part number you can look at the top of the rear axle for the ID Mark stamped in large white letters (ID Mark is first 2 digits of code):

Part Number ID Mark Number of Teeth Gear Ratio

38300-K4409 CR 48:11 4.363

38300-K4419 CT 48:11 4.363 LSD

38300-K4509 CV 51:11 4.636

38300-K4519 CX 51:11 4.636 LSD

Thanks for all the info everyone....I think I might start looking around for an older Pathy to buy. I love my 97, but off road parts are scarce and when found, they are extremely expensive.

Wish me luck
