How to mount a Jerry can holder

since i can't start a thread in the "How-To" section, i'll make one here.

alright, so i bought a jerry can and the holder for it at the local Riebes for 56.82 USD.

2 "Flat Plates" at home depot (that stuff your garage door track is suspended by)

2 1-1/4" U-bolts (1-1/4" is the diameter of your stock spare tire rack)

and

2 1/4" lock nuts for the u-bolts.

i already had the rest of the hardware handy, mostly leftover hardware from my AC body lift kit (it doesn't really matter what size hardware you use for the rest)

here's a pic of all the parts i had to buy (minus the jerry can):

i then cut 4 14" sections of the flat plate, and one 13" section.

two of the 14"sections went horizontally alongside the jerry can holder on the top and two of the bottom, and one 13" section went diagonally for support (it's not in this next picture, but you get the point. it went from hole to hole) i fastened all the sections of flat plate with washers and lock nuts.

then i had to beat the u-bolts over the tubing on my tire rack. this bent the ends of the U's outwards, but i bent them back as shown in this next pic.

the 2x4 gave the u-bolts a solid surface with which to beat them against with a hammer. this bent the u-bolts back into place so that they would align with the holes in the flat plate.

all that's left to do is fasten the jerry can holder to the u-bolts, and voila! you've mounted yourself a jerry can holder. the whole thing cost me 70.99 USD and about a half hour of work.
