unccpathfinder
manual tranny? possibly a throw out bearing...mine would groan when it was cold sometimes I would have to give her hell to get it to stop yelling but most of the time by the time I got 50 yards down the road it would go away... but that doesnt really sound like a belt slipping its more deep of a sound... if its an auto maybe the a/c compressor or idler pulley have bad bearings? 95shakinPF
Yeah! like he said! But, Auto trannys sometimes whine until heated up too! It comes from the oil pump in the front of the tranny. It may help to add a good transmission additive and a fluid/filter change! But I would check what "uncc" suggested first. german996
Definetly sounds like a bearing going bad, but the fact is that it only doest very ocassionally, and for very short periods of time, sounds like my next step would be to change the tranny fluid, Im going off roading tomorrow. thank you for your suggestions german996
unccpathfinder
so is it a MT or AT? if its the MT the fluid change isnt going to help the throwout bearing and you want to make sure you use GL4 b/c I guess GL5 kills the tranny (i've used GL5 and havent had any issues but maybe i'm just lucky) and you want to make sure you get the qty right b/c they put the fill plug in the wrong location so it needs to be filled from the top (through shifter) or lean the truck (never used this method)
