95shakinPF
Hey everybody!! I have had my pathy for 3 mos now and other than fixing a few minor problems, I am going to start some modifications! So far I have already replaced the waterpump and T-belt and of course a tune-up and fluid changes. Otherwise its mechanically sound, so I thought appearance mods would be a great place to start! I was thinking of adding some driving lights on top, mounted to the rack(my pathy has a factory luggage rack). One thing Im unsure about, is wiring. How should I route the wiring to the inside of the vehicle? Has anyone else mounted lights to the luggage rack and had problems doing so? Please offer any suggestions or Ideas! Also, I was also going to build an air intake system for use of a cone type air filter. Is there a particular length the air filter needs to be away from the throttle body or does it matter as long as the MAF sensor is still operable? Will this make any performance difference or just look good? Thanks for help, looking foward to your comments! Billy
88pathoffroad
Getcha a couple of CB antenna mount clamps and bolt the lights to those. They're relatively cheap at truck stops and work great. I drilled a small hole in my roof at the edge(not IN the drain channel, mind you) and ran wires through there, then siliconed it up. Run the wiring down the windshield pillar to the kick panel near your foot, put the relay down there, add a switch wherever you want it and voila, lights on the roof. You can also simply run the wiring up to the top of the door and just have them exit at the top through the door seal, I suppose.
MikeV
I would stick to the stock airbox and add a K&N or Airhog filter. stock box keeps water out very well as long as you don't have a crap paper filter in it. (See you in mississippi so I believe water would be at least part of the fun)
josh
I spent like 60 bux on a K&N cone 4 inch inlet and adapter. Adapter wasnt the cheap plastic crap either. Nice heavy duty aluminum hahaha as if there was such. Anyways, I noticed a differnce in sound only, maybe a small small power gain. Not the outstanding number the companies proclaim. At first I kept the lower part of my box, even with my huge a$$ cone filter on there it fit. I could have made it permanent but ended up tossing it in the end. I also stayed away form the typical tubeing stuff. Stick to OEM intake tube or get the plastic type, metal conducts heat ass we all know so why let it heat up coming into the TB. So id say save time, money, get the drop in. if you want for airflow, I know alot of mustang guys whole drill a ton of holes in the airbox. But than again, water is mor eof an issue than. Good luck with whatever you do Later
LD50
I have 4 lights going on the roof in a week or so (whenever they arrive). Planning on using the cb mounts to attach them. I have an amsoil filter with a sentra (i think) intake adapter off ebay that cost $4 or so.... It gets wet pretty easy, she wanted to stall on me during some water crossings I did earlier this summer. I think i will make a shield for it or go the snorkel route soon because this needs to be improved a bit. It resulted in a better exhaust note when I added this filter too, but I already have an aftermarket exhaust too. I'll grab a pic of it installed tomorrow if i remember. 95shakinPF
Thanks for all the "water warnings" I had not thought of that. I've been thinking of making my own MAF adapter(IM a machinist), but I keep finding universal ones at the parts stores for @ $12 and I think all Ill have to do if enlarge the existing mount holes a little to get it to work! I thought I have read a post about boring the MAF housing. Has anyone had any luck or success from doing this?
88pathoffroad
I think you'd have to massively overbore a stock MAF to gain any reasonable results (~40mm stock to +/- 60mm? (I've never measured stock size)) and the larger bore may or may not affect how the MAF works in the first place, so hmmm. I couldn't say.
