Speedometer

Well when driving today i noticed my speedometer was not moving and engine light was on once again. It first happened to me 5 or 6 months ago, but all i simply did was turn off the car and start it again. BUT today when i reached a speed of 90Km the speedometer worked then died shorty after when exiting the offramp and slowing down. So when i got home i disconnected and re-connected the battery which fixed the engine light problem but still no speedometer. Has anyone experienced the same problem or know of a simple fix?

What year and engine?

 

Could be a bad speedo, bad cable(if so equipped), bad wiring(if so equipped), bad speed sensor, speed sensor gear stripped out.

I had a similar problem twice this summer. I started my 94 up and there were NO interior lights, guages, radio, power windows or locks, or A/C, but the engine was still running. Which sucked because it was about 1:30 on a hot Oklahoma summer day with no A/C and the windows stuck up and no blower motor!!! I'm not sure if ALL of this is cutting out on you, but for me it was a wire coming of the positve battery post that was almost corroded through. I stripped and soddered the wire and it fixed everything!

 

Might check the wires coming off you battery first to see if everything is in good condition, and then go from there.
