arcano Posted February 19, 2009 Share Posted February 19, 2009 I recently replaced the clutch on my '98, with "only" 175,000 miles. The only reason I replaced it was because the throwout bearing went bad (it howled like a dying animal), and I decided to just replace everything while I had the transmission down. The friction and pressure plates were still in very good condition, and could probably have lasted another 50,000 miles at least. I did some research regarding aftermarket clutches, and in the end decided to go with all OEM original components. I am very happy with the decision, and some 20,000 miles latter the clutch still feels better than new. I think all the parts from the dealer were just under $300, so its not much more than some of the aftermarked clutches (and actually less than some). I figure if it lasts as long as the first one...
