who would know about an 96 hardbody 4cyl 4x4

A friend of mine is stuck in austin the mechanic there says their truck is out of time and the valve guides shredded and are all through the motor its a four cyl and i thought that was a belt like ours they are saying it is a chain is this possible

the chain jumping time and shredding vavle guides ive never opened up the 4cyl

The 2.4L had a timing chain instead of a belt IIRC. I had an '86 harbody for while with the 2.4 engine, it had a chain with a plastic sprocket.

Yep, the 2.4's have a chain and the guides wearing out are a known problem.
