Think I found my oil leak

so i changed my clutch not too long ago (about 10k miles now) and i did the rear main and noticed oil starting to leak all over the place and instantly thought its my rear main...tonight after a lil investigating it seems like the oil pressure sending unit is leaking...the little orange boot on it was completely filled with oil and it has blown all over the underside of my truck....i really hate that connector too

so a couple of questions...will it eventually break all the way and just dump my oil?

would it be better to go ahead and invest in a gage and loose the old dummy light? (or i could tee off to a gage after replacing the sending unit...

im going to try to purple power everything tomorrow if i have time and investigate a lil further...i was just looking cuze i dropped some oil in my buddies driveway today after our 7 hr hood swap/alignment party on his ss camaro (the new hinge brackets were sprung and we wasted about 4 hrs trying to figure out what the deal was and eventually stuck the old hinges on that we thought were bent from where he had an altercation with traction control engaging while playing which happened to land the nose right into a light pole but we got all the parts for under $1500: bumper, hood, condenser, hood latch bracket, front clip cross member, hinges, front cover plate. now the bumper just needs to be painted, the hood touched up from shipping and u would never know)

  • 2 weeks later...

well i cleaned it all up 2 days ago and parked down at my neighbors house to help him with his bug...i noticed 2 silver dollar size spots on the driveway and climbed under it...the starter has a lil oil on it but not much at all...the bottom of the tranny is covered with oil and it seems as if its coming out of the bell housing...this weekend im going to pull the starter and stick some rags in the housing to see if and how much oil is in there...

so im looking at rear main and/or oil pan...

next question...if i find that the bell housing is full of oil its more than likely the RMS...so i changed it when i changed the clutch...i've put 10k miles on the clutch...i assumie i should just drop the tranny out pull the clutch and flywheel then do the RMS and reuse the clutch and flywheel (marking both and their locations when removed to keep the balance...

while thats out should i go ahead and drop the FA and do the pan b/c i think it will be leaking soon...and i need to do valve cover gaskets...

would it be possible to do all of this on a weekend?...i've done the clutch before over a span of 3 nights with about 6 hrs of work a night but that was about all i could handle at the time...this really pisses me off b/c i could only get the parts thru advance auto and i knew the @!*% would end up leaking...grrr
