The backspacing measurement is the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel to the back surface (lip) of the wheel. Offset is the measurement from the mounting surface of the wheel to the centerline of the wheel. The smaller the backspacing, the more outboard the wheel/tire moves. Negative offset means the mounting surface is inboard of the center of the wheel (pushes the wheel/tire outboard). Positive offset is the opposite.
