madhatter_xe
I think the pathy's rear main seal is leaking...I haven't heard other people mention this much before, is it common for an 88? Does anybody have some tips on changing this? Is it easier to pull the engine or the tranny? thanks.
mws
I can't answer your specific questions, sorry! But I will advise to inspect carefully before diving in. A lot of perceived rear main seal leaks turn out to be leaks originating somewhere else, with the leaked fluid migrating due to gravity, capillary action, and under hood air currents. Get a mirror and a bright flashlight and inspect the back and sides (especially around the oil filter and sending units) of the engine to verify it isn't starting somewhere else. Slick
*clears throat* welp, i found it much easier with the motor out. i have changed the RMS while it was "still in the motor" but the second time i took the whole housing off and pressed it out n pressed the new one in on the work bench. It can be done with the motor in, but boy i would NOT want to try it..... i changed the TO bearing while i'm in there and cleaned my bell housing.. shot RMS's sure do make a mess of things!
