Or, maybe...just maybe, they finally pulled the wool out of their eyes and realized that if you don't floor it off every red light and slam on the brakes, that you get considerably better gas mileage!

 

And maybe....just maybe, with the gas prices being the way they are....people are doing whatever they can to have their fill-ups last a little bit longer.

WRONG!

 

Engines are most efficient (ie best gas mileage) at approximatly 75% throttle (theoretically engines are at there most effecient at wide open throttle, but once real world factors are accounted for it's more like 75%) I consistantly get 16MPG on mostly rural road driving and I keep my foot on the gas all the time.
