What I mean by slipping is that it revs high for a second, then the tranny shifts with making the car jump a bit. I think I found the problem. It might be that I have low tranny fluid. I swore I checked it and it was normal. But when I drove it around a bit, the level was low. Weird. I haven't tried that stuff yet. I bought it though and have it for backup.

Hi, This is a non Pathfinder question so I hope I can post it here. I have a 2002 Toyota Corolla with oabout 40K on it. And the tranny is slipping between 1st and 2nd. I gave it a fluid change already at 30K. Any ideas?

I bet the rear brakes are just dirty. Take the drums off and spray the drums and brake components with brake cleaner. Reassemble the thing and it should be fine.

hahahaha...Good comment. So much for "cold air intake". Now I understand that this applies to SUVs and other cars not meant for speed, but wouldn't this apply to sports cars (namely ricers) too? I mean, their engine bay gets hot too. So in other words, does this mean that the "cold air intake" kits are crap? Those filters aren't cheap either. I've seen them for $40 at autozone before.

Replaceing these parts as in the Stabilizer Links? Do you mean there's something wrong with the factory link and shoud be replaced with aftermarket links??

HIGHWAY ROBBERY!! $400??? I repacked mine at about 50K mi. It costs me $0 (since I had a can of grease from previous job) and about 1-1.5hr per side to repack. The 2nd side goes a lot faster since you have a good idea how to put the thing back together. At 30K you shouldn't have to replace the bearing (unless you do off-roading a lot). If you are a DIY person, definitely roll up your sleeves and do it yourself.

What are stabilizer links? So what do you look for in the tie rod ends, ball joints, and bushings? Excessive rust? How can you tell if they are bad? Should I replace these? or Lube them? tighten them? I have the same "clunk" problem too. Crap. Looks like a lot of possibilities to check out. Please advise. :bow:

Front Stabilizers? Forgive me for the newb question but isn't the Front Stabilizer pretty much a bar that connects the right side to the left? How can "a bar" go bad? unless it snapped?

I'd like to see this! We don't have a lot of room in the engine compartment in the first place. If you decide to do it, be sure to post pics as you go.

Out of curiosity, what kind of problems did you run into? What made it PITA? I'm looking at my suspension and it doesn't seem too hard. Mine is an 01.

Hi folks. OK update here. I found a resonator from a local auto parts store. I installed it. The problem now is the exhaust pipe sits too high. Either I block part of the exhaust pipe with the bumper, or if I pull the pipe lower, it will rub against the bumper. Maybe rub is the wrong word..I mean press against the bumper. What can I do aside from taking the whole thing out and returning it? It was hard as hell to put it on. Can I find a pipe bender that can bend that? I tried bending it by hand (just a bit) but it won't budge. Almost done now. Just got to fix this little quirk. Thanks for all the help and suggestions!

Wow...so a lot of people here took the resonator off? I just took the resonator and the pipe going to the resonator out today. The engine noise is not too bad but noticably a bit louder. I can't find a replacement resonator or that exhaust pipe ot the resonator at pep boys or autozone. It sounds like a dealer part to me. Like I said, the engine noise is not too bad. I can live with it. But where do I find an exhaust pipe that will take my exhaust from the muffler to the rear. The flange coming out of the muffler hooks upward a bit, making it awkward to find a replacement. Any ideas? How did you guys do it? I have a stock muffler BTW. Also, is welding requred to do this?

Yup. I'm up in Chicago and we salt the roads pretty heavily... The flange on the adapter sections have rusted away and the post muffler (the lst section before the xhaust is expelled) is flailing around...I'll have to inspect the POST muffler section more carefully, but the $tealership said the post muffler and adapter flange will have ot be replaced. I hope it didn't create confustion. So is there performance post mufflers? Same companies? Dynomax, Borla, Gibson, etc. etc...? What does a post muffler do anyways? Gets rid of more noise? Hello All, My muffler assembly has rusted away and it's time to replace it. I was wondering if there is such a thing as performance mufflers (add HP? or Torque other bonuses?) for the Pathfinder 2001? If so, where do they sell these? Thanks.

Yup, that's what mine sounded like...and it was only the driver side window too for some reason. The weather is warming up here and the window seizing problem has stopped so I'm going to hold off the silicone lube until the 05 winter.

Too bad the 2001 service manuals are $200 :o
