  1. My fronts are factory original at 125K miles, but they're getting low. Haven't looked at the rears, but they're original too.

That's incredible. I had the front ones replaced twice. The first time I used a cheap brand so they didn't last. The second time around,I used a better brand and they have been great. My neighbor has about 100k on the front brakes of his Mazda 3, but I didn't believe him. Never thought front brakes last that long.

  2. The one behind the cat is easy to get to especially compared to the pre cat sensor. You need to be a skinny armed person that is also double jointed to even think about it.... The only one I had go out figures it would be that one...Good luck

Thanks for all the info. I replaced the Bank 1 Sensor 2 about 3 years ago and it was breeze because I borrowed the tool from Autozone. I plan on doing the same with this one, I just hope the rust on it isn't too bad. 134k on the odo and still running strong.

  3. I got a reading on my check engine light and it read bad O2 sensor Bank 2, #2. I am assuming that would be the one on the Driver Side and after the Catalytic Converter. Is that correct? Also, there was a Knock sensor code. The knock sensor code has been coming on forever, has anyone else had that?

  4. I have a 96 Path. I used to get about 17mpg and now I am barely getting over 14.5. Is this normal? I don't have oversized tires and I don't drive hard or on hills. My engine light has been on for quite a while and it is the O2 sensor. I already replaced one and another went bad. Any thoughts if they are worth replacing? and how much do they affect mileage? The factory replacement from Autozone is $95 or if I am willing to splice it myself, I can pay less.

  5. I have noticed that the pedal sticks a bit when taking off. It only does it from rest not while driving. It is a bit annoying because it makes the car jerk when taking off from a dead stop. I tried cleaning the body butterfly and sprayed some lubricant on the cables. Is this a common problem? Any suggestions? Thanks

  6. A resonator? I don't even know what that is... P...

I got the manufacturer "BOSAL" to pay for the muffler assembly and I agreed to pay shipping. They are also paying for the resonator. I think when it is all said and done, it will end up costing around $200 and it will be back to OEM specs.

    Thanks for the replies.

  7. I found out today that my muffler is under warranty but the tail piple which includes the resonator is not. That piece is almost $200 plus labor. They are telling me the truck will be extremely loud without it. Has anyone run without one? And is there a cheap fix? I have 130K and I just spent $800 on tires and AC...I am not sure the whole truck is worth more than $2k, though it is rust free.

  8. I have a 96 SE 4WD, this is the 3rd system that I am ready to install. Is there any advice on a cheap replacement. I have 130K on it and I don't want to spend another $700 to replace it. I know the muffler shop is going to want to replace my cat converter too. Any help is appreciated.

  9. My 96 has 130K on it. It sits outside and I live in MI. The last exhaust system (Cat Back) was installed in 2004. Now it has holes in it and is rusted. I don't want to replace the Cat converter and our state does not do emissions. Any ideas on a cheap fix? Any help is appreciated.

  10. I have the same truck as you do and I had to replace mine around 70K. I just installed aftermarket generic struts and disconnected the switch. The truck just turned 130K and it has been great. Definitely not worth the investment to install OEM. Hope this helps.

Hello all I am new here. Ive been lurking for a little while reading how-to's and working on my pathy and its running better then ever. But now I have a question which I can not seem to find an answer too anywhere on the web.

I have a 96 Pathfinder SE with Electronic Adjust suspension. I just rolled over 93k miles and have been putting off replacing the front struts for about a year now, but it has now gotten so bad that the front end of the pathy actually sags and I can bounce it so much that I can bring the front tires off the ground. So its gotten very dangerous and I indeed now have to replace the struts. The problem being that I am currently unemployed so money is very tight. While I can afford to purchase the OEM electronic adjust struts the cheapest I can find them is for $257 shipped. But I can get a set of KYBs, Gabriels, Monroes, or even Ranchos for half that but they all say they do not fit the electronic adjust.

So the question is what would be the cheapest/safest way to replace the front struts on a 96 pathfinder se with electronic adjust? A little help would be great in this area as my mechanic friend that will be helping me replace them is completely unsure if non-adjust struts will fit in the stock mounts.

    Thank you in advance.

    The Pathfinder in question.

  11. I am ready to change the tranny fluid on my 96 path, the dealer wants $9qt for the D Matic fluid. Is this the only one that should be used? The truck has 115K on it and it has been changed once already. Can I use Dexron III? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...

  12. I hate to re-hash this, but I would like to eliminate any problems before I take it to the dealer. I just checked the Rear end fluid and it was a little low. The car is a 96 4x4 with LSD. I did use the right fluid.

I don't hear anything at straight line acceleration. The only time I hear the noise is when I turn left or right. I took it to a cul du sac and kept going in circles trying to listen in. It seems it is coming from the rear tires, it sounds like a winding noise. hard to describe. I put the car in 4H and I could feel the 4wd kicking in.

I heard that Nissans do make noise but I just want to make sure.

Any help is greatly appreciated. By the way, does anyone know where I can get a used center wheel cap? Thanks.

  13. I have a 96 4x4 with about 95K on it. It has never been off-roaded. Lately, when I take off making a right or left turn (in 2WD mode), I get a weird noise and it seems like the rear end is sliding out. I just replaced the Rear differential fluid with 80W-90 and I don't hear any sounds at any speeds. I have driven as hard as 90mph and it drives great. Curious to know if anyone has a clue.

Also, what is a good gas mileage for a Pathfinder, I am getting about 20mpg.

Lastly, does anyone know where all the lube points are on 96?

    Thanks,

  14. Hi everyone,

I am new to this and am hoping to get a straight answer. My dealer can't seem to tell me. Is Dexron II or III acceptable to use in a 96 Pathfinder 4x4? or should I only use the Nissan DMatic transmission fluid? Any help is greatly appreciated?
