  1. Hey sorry its taken so long for me to respond. I got the truck back this past Friday and it is now running great. I talked to the mechanic and he said that there was 2 quarts too much transmission fluid in there and this was causing it to bubble up and give false reading to the sensors. I dont know how it got that way since I have never had any transmission work done on the car and its never done this before, but apparently all it needed was a transmission flush.

    Thanks for all the advice.

  2. Yes its an Automatic. I checked the fluids and it seems fine. The loss of power/propulsion occurs in every gear. It takes a while for it to shift but I think that its only because the vehicle isnt traveling very fast its not like its stalling in between shifts just takes a while for it to reach the end of each gear. And there are no error code/check engine lights on.

I took it in this morning and hopefully they will know what the problem is soon. Thanks for all the help.

  3. So the last 2 days Ive come home from work my car has experienced a dramatic loss in power/propulsion and I have no idea what it could possibly be. Here are ssome things that I experience:

    • Happened the last 2 days while driving home from work, issue possibly related to heat since it sat in the sun all day prior to it happening
    • Sudden loss in power/propulsion
    • Throttle response/engine response seems normal however, there is no power to the wheels
    • Feels like I am dragging a huge boulder
    • Acceleration seems limited, like the car or transmission is in survival mode and wont let me accelerate quickly
    • I don’t hear any noticeable noise or feel anything that stands out; just the loss of power/propulsion

Ive been told it could possibly be the transmission modulator but Im not really sure.

FYI, I have a 2004 Pathfinder SE 3.5L V6 and its got 84,xxx miles on it.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I've noticed alot of oil puddling under my car so I took a look. I noticed that under the oil filter was covered with oil and this piece was also covered in oil and I think that this is what is causing the leak. Is this the oil pressure sending unit? if so how much does it cost to replace it and how long would it take? Thanks!

  5. Its been about a week of driving and I still periodically hear the noise. I now noticed that I also feel it in the break pedal when pressing on the break. Im beginning to think that it has something to do with my ABS since it feels similar to when I slam on the breaks and ABS kicks in. Does anyone know if ABS kicks in one wheel at a time or all four wheels at the same time?

  6. I got a letter in the mail this past week saying that there will be a recall on my 2004 Nissan pathfinder SE. It basically says that there have been problems with the front strut housing due to the salt that is used for snow removal and that Nissan is currently working on a remedy for the problem. It goes on to say that when they come up with a remedy that they will send me a 2nd letter telling me to take my Pathy to a Nissan dealer and that they will replace and install everything for free!!! Heres a picture of the letter in case you guys wanted to read it. Recallphoto.jpg

  7. So I took the Pathy to the dealership today to see what exactly was wrong with it. Told them that it was making noise and that I thought it might have been the wheel bearing. The mechanic took it out for a drive to see if he could figure it out, and he came back and decided that it the fluids in the back probably just needed to be flushed. He said that in the 9 years hes been working for Nissan that he has only seen one pathfinder with a worn out wheel bearing, and that they don't even repair thing in the rear differential/axle, and that I would have to go to a specialty or high performance repair shop in order to get it fixed.

So in two weeks i should be able to determine if it was just the fluids that needed to be flushed or if it was actually the wheel bearing.

  8. While driving home from school this weekend, I started to hear a thumping coming from somewhere under the driver side of my Pathfinder. At first I thought it was coming from the rear driver side wheel area, but then I thought I felt it coming from underneath me.

The noise is a repeating thumping type noise, if I had to describe it I would say it sounds like a few lug nuts were missing and the wheel was moving back and forth hitting something, but it doesn't really have a distinct metal to metal contact sound because its kind of a low tone. It almost sounds like when you roll one window down half way on the highway and the fast wind makes that annoying noise.

When it first started I thought it was coming from the wheel well, or maybe it was my exhaust that came loose and is now vibrating. But then when I started to apply the brake it felt like the brakes were slipping/skipping.

Does anybody have any ideas to what it could be? or are there any common problem areas that I should specifically look at? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't had a chance to look at it but I will update on what I see, Ill also have my brother-in-law look at it.

  9. If it starts when the terminal clamps are connected to the booster cables and the cables are not connected to another battery, this would indicate that it is a connection problem and not a battery problem. Try that cause that would be the easiest/cheapest test to determine if its the battery or the connection that is the problem. Just an idea.

  10. I just decided to get rid of the deflector cause then the lights would be lower and also because the deflector tended to hold water and other debris up there. The lights are kind of loud but only when the sun roof is open and I can always loosen the bolts and lay them down flat.

  11. I decided I would make a light bar for the roof over this past spring break and thought I would post how I did it on the forum to help others.I decided to uses a 1x1 square steel and then painted it black. The First thing was to remove the wind deflector from the the roof rack. I then cut a rectangle out of the suport and attached the light bar using the bolt that held the deflector down. I then ran the wires under the weather stripping on the passenger side door into the engine bay and also to the switch located on the dash board, and also grounded the lights through the sun roof. Here are some pictures.

  13. The weather finaly cleared up enough so that I could finish wiring these lights so I took some pictures and figured I would post them to help others.

So I spent a while trying to figure out what the best way through would be and decided that I would go through the left wheel well right next to where the hood release cable went through.

This picture is from the inside looking at where the hood release cable exits the cab. ( the wire is already pushed through ) I just drilled about a 1/4" hole through the firewall.

Picture form the wheel well after I removed the covers.

Then I just put the wires in the clamps that the pre existing wires had.

What it looks like on the inside

Wasn't that difficult once I decided where I was going to go through, the hardest part was getting the fender well covers off and on. Thanks for the help guys

  14. So I am trying to run 3 wires through the firewall into the cab in order to hook up the auxiliary lights i just bought but I cannot find a good spot to go through. I've searched for the holes where the existing wires go though but I can only find one but it is jammed packed full of wires. Any suggestions? pictures would help a lot. Thanks

  15. Recently I have been hearing a lot of rattling at around 1500 rpm's and I finally got underneath my pathfinder and noticed that part of the exhaust had snapped off at the clamp holding it in place right underneath the driver side door. But after looking closer, it looked like it was just a cover that was in between the exhaust and the floor. Does anybody else have this problem?? could it be because there are 2 different metals (one being the exhaust cover and the other being the clamp) causing each other to corrode?? I'm not too worried about the piece because it is only about a foot long, but the entire exhaust system is pretty rusted and was maybe considering buying a new system? any recommendations?

  16. On my 2004 pathfinder, the intermittent wipers do not work. It used to have maybe 10 different speeds, but now it only has 3 fast faster and fastest. I think that the problem is the wiper amplifier, but I am unable to find it, can anyone help?

  17. Does anybody know where I can find a 2" or 3" body lift for a 2004 pathfinder SE? And if so what problems could I eventually have? because from what I hear the suspension lifts will give me problems down the road which is why I was wanting the body lift.
